Why I’m not really liking the book Thrive in The Addicted Series
I really wanted to finish the addicted series within these few months… I’m close to the end but Thrive has been the worst read so far and I’m going to tell why.
I don’t think it’s a bad book… There’s just a lot about the book I’m not really jiving with.
First off- this doesn’t pick up right where hothouse flower ends… which is the first time the series did this. This follows Lilly and Lo while all the other events were happening. The suggested reading order says to put this after the first two Calloway sisters books- BUT Lilly and Lo are the best couple in the series… so I think I would have rather read this book first. It will spoil the endings of the Calloway sisters books… but I’m not really reading the series for the Calloway sisters and their love interests…so I’d rather the book about Lilly and Lo be a better reading experience.
I also have some problems with Jonathan Hale… sooo some spoilers for the first book but Jonathan had a relationship with an underage girl that worked for him I think? And because of that the paparazzi is now accusing him of doing awful things to Lo, Lilly and possibly Ryke… and everyone is pressuring Ryke to speak in his father’s defense… I don’t like this plot point and I don’t think it’s handled that well… I don’t think Ryke should be pressured to say something…and I don’t think it’s right of everyone to pressure him because what if something awful had happened to him? Also he really didn’t know Jonathan as well so he really can’t vouch for his personality. Over all I just… don’t like this plot.
I also feel like I wish the female characters in the book weren’t so dependent on their significant others. Rose makes a lot of mistakes in the series and… I just really want Rose to win against Connor at least one time. I didn’t dislike Connor as Lilly and Lo’s friend but he is kind of the worst in the rest of the books. If he lost one time I would like him way more.
I liked Ryke in Hothouse flower but his arguments with Lo and his blunt way of talking to Lilly about sex and also kind of shaming her for her addiction rubs me the wrong way a bit… I’m not sure.
That being said- I like the book still… it’s just taking me a while to read this particular book because these are things I’m not liking in romance books.
Bye!
