Tv Tuesday: American Horror Story 1984 is kind of bad. Spoiler review.

Alright so in preparation for American Horror Story Double Feature- I finally watched 1984! And... it was bad!

I can’t say I hated it- I still had fun watching it. I’m not even sure it was my least favorite season... but I would say overall it probably is the worst season of the show because... there was just a lot wrong with it.

Who’s the killer? Ohhh everyone is. That’s... suspenseful. There’s literally no suspense for most of the season because too many of the characters are either killers or their dead already. Like is The Night Stalker going to kill Mr. Jingles? I don't really know and I don't really care. It's not that I think they're bad characters... Mr. Jingles is great but... it's just not suspenseful in the least because... the killer is always right behind you.

They add... SOOOO MANY Unnecessary Characters toward the end of the season.

This might just be because I watched 8 episodes of the season in one day... but they just keep adding more and more characters in... especially towards the end of the season when they really shouldn't add anyone else. There's an episode titled "The Woman in White" and when I saw that title I was like "Ohhh great... another character. Just what the show needed." And I guess all the characters are sort of a way to add character development for Mr. Jingles... but he doesn't really need that. It's just ugh too much all together.

Mr. Jingles I'd say is a pretty strong character with a pretty good arc on his own. He's played by John Caroll Lynch- who is known for playing Twisty the clown... another very dangerous and very layered character. Jingles was the Janitor for the camp that ends up locked up in an Asylum for murdering an entire cabin of the camp... except for one person- who ends up being the camp director for the camp's reopening. So the whole season we see Mr. Jingles as this terrible serial killer that escapes the asylum and kills just about everyone he comes into contact with... and then we find out... Spoiler alert... He's not the killer. He was set up by Margaret Boothe- the new camp director and lone survivor of his attacks. She actually killed the camp cabin and just used him as the fall guy because she knew she could do that and get away with it.

The twist is kind of predictable... but it also makes just about everything in the series moot. Like Dee- the psychologist that was investigating him and gave him the idea to set him free so that she could study a serial killer in action and figure out why he killed so that he could be the last serial killer... that all kind of fell apart because he's not really a serial killer. He killed a few people after he was released... but that's pretty much it. She has a good backstory too as to why she's so interested in serial killers and psychology... but the way they show it doesn't have much of a payoff and it's just a little bit cheesy.

The story with Brooke... could have also been better. She's a very good girl character- but they kind of hint that she has a darker side... and they never really go into that. She plays the "innocent virgin" act-but Montana did say that she slept with her brother the night before Brooke was supposed to get married. We never see that. She also says "its her first time" when she's with Ray and it seems like she's lying but they never really say that.

Overall I did like the characters... I wish they had another episode or 2 to develop a lot of them... part of it seemed like the story was very rushed... but it was also so convoluted that I feel like 2 more episodes could have made it worse.

I think if you like American Horror Story- or if you just like the 80s... this is still an entertaining season even if it might be the worst of the show. I think some people don't like the season because Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson weren't in it... that's not why I think it was a bad season- I just think... not every season can be that good and this one kind of had the most problems.
