TV Pet Peeve/ Why I probably Won’t watch The Goldbergs Finale
Okay so tonight is the finale of the show The Goldbergs and that's a show I kind of liked for a while and it kind of... lost it's magic to me a while ago... but that's not my big pet peeve... my pet peeve is something that a lot of shows do and I don't think we should fall for it anymore.
So Jeff Garlin was fired from The Goldbergs because he was horrible on set. He said inappropriate things to people, he shouted "Bagina, Bagina, Bagina" in someone's face and he was just not a good guy. If anyone did that in any sort of office setting or any other job they'd be fired, no one would question it... it's just not professional behavior. Btw I just typed a B instead in that word because... I don't want this to be restricted or anything.
Anyway- the show decided to keep a CGI Jeff Garlin for the rest of the season- which was uncanny and horrible and hilarious. And then when the show came back this year- they killed his character off... which is my pet peeve.
So whenever someone gets fired for being horrible... I would rather have them recast because when they kill them off they're basically glorifying these horrible, horrible people. I think it's kind of to try to get more viewers to see how they kill this person off... or the really bad cases like when The Conner's killed off Roseanne- people were still sticking up for Roseanne even though she was awful... so they would probably watch because it's like a memorial to her and her awful things. Like it's almost too much of a tribute to someone that they fired for being a terrible person. I don't like that. It's weird.
I also think the VERY OBVIOUS joke would be to recast the role because that's what they would do in the 80s. They ALWAYS recast characters. They could have a different 80s celebrity play him each episode too. That would have been really really funny.
Plus for the show- I think there was just too much death on The Goldbergs to kill off Murray. Unfortunately the actor that played Pops also died that year- so they had to actually celebrate him- and the fact that they killed Murray off and had to celebrate him even though he didn't do anything... really really kind of took away from that in my opinion. And I just don't think it moved the plot along very well.
So overall- that's what kind of ruined The Goldbergs for me. I think it's a funny concept but... the fact that the show had to be investigated because of Garlin's
behavior- then they have a sad moment where Erika names her baby after him... it just seems weird.
And yes- Murray Goldberg is based on a real person so that makes it worse... but that's more of a reason to recast him instead of killing him off.
I don't think I'll watch the finale tonight- I do think the cast is talented and the writers did what they could... but I think there could have been some better decisions made.
Bye!
