Throwback Thursday: Things That Used To Be at Malls by Me
Okay so today I couldn’t think of what to write and then I saw a YouTube video about a store from the early 2000’s by a YouTuber called Madi Hearts- definitely check out this video- it’s less than 5 minutes and she gives some detail about the store.
Anyway the store she mentioned was called Dry Ice which I remember going to in Freehold Mall! They sold a bunch of like early 2000’s room decor types of things and they had some clothes and jewelry and toys also. I remember going there after my friends birthday party at Build a Bear and they had this really cool thing that looked like melted ice cream in a bowl… and it really looked like it! My friend wanted to get it to prank her dad with and her mom thought it was funny too… I was too young to notice prices of things but it was probably too expensive and not worth it because I remember going in there and it was awesome but I don’t think I ever bought anything and it definitely wasn’t there the next time I went to freehold mall.
They had a lot of good toy stores when I was really little too. They had a Warner Brothers Store which was really really cool. I’m sure I’ve talked about this before on this blog- but they had gremlins on the ceiling and there was this big spaceship type thing and inside they had the looney tunes characters saying different things. I remember one was “your biological clock is ticking.” They also had similar beanie baby type toys to The Disney Store-
But for Warner brothers movies and shows. I think I got some Scooby doo ones, I know I had ones from The King and I and Quest for Camelot. And it was still around when the first two Harry Potter movies came out- so I got a Harry Potter robe from the store too which was great!
They had some toy stores that were fun too. They used to have one called Noodle Kid Kadoodle and then that closed I think and it became a Zany Brainy- which they also had at Monmouth Mall- I think where the Barnes and Noble just opened up? Or maybe it was the old Barnes and Noble or something different. I can’t really remember but it was a fun toy store that sold mostly educational toys and I think one time I had a nightmare that I couldn’t find my mom at the zany brainy and Trunchball from Matilda was killing glow worms. Both fun stores!
They had a lot of great places in the food court and places to get snacks over the years too at Freehold Mall. There was a place that had Boli’s and those were the best. That place was there for years and it was so good- although it was a little greasy it was still really really good.
They had a panini place too that wasn’t a quizznos but it was similar to that. They had hot sandwiches and they were all really good. I think I used to get a chicken parm type of one. My grandparents really liked that spot too.
And there was a cupcake place called Crumbs. My sister used to go to a free standing crumbs store and she would bring them home for me and we were both really excited it was opening up at Freehold Mall. I hear this brand is coming back- which is exciting.
Anyway I think that’s everything I want to talk about today. I also had a free standing Delia’s store at Monmouth Mall- but I don’t think I really went in there a lot. I loved going through the catalog but I don’t really remember it that well. I think I might have been too young to fit in their clothes.
Anyway that is it!
Bye!
