Throwback Thursday: Spottie Dottie the Forgotten Sanrio Character

So when I was a kid I was a big fan of Spottie Dottie. I think she was a new Sanrio character when I was little and I just really liked her. I thought of her as like the dog version of Hello Kitty and I am more of a dog person than a cat person... but at the time I still liked cats on things too... so Spottie Dottie had a dog and a cat- which made me like her even more.

I had notebooks, I had a fun eraser... I think I had postcards and maybe even valentines with Spottie Dottie. I just thought she was really cute and I liked that she was kind of a doggy version of Hello Kitty. Even now I have kind of a soft spot for Spottie Dottie- and I love all the Sanrio characters a lot.

So I was really surprised when I was watching the Sanrio episode of The Toys That Made Us and apparently Spottie Dottie was a flop for them! I was shocked- I kind of figured Spottie Dottie didn't really stand the test of time and you never really saw her with hello kitty or any of the other Sanrio friends, but I just always liked Spottie Dottie- so I was upset she wasn't more popular.

I feel like maybe she just doesn't go with the other characters. Everything is very Pink when it comes to Spottie Dottie where the other characters are more pastel. I was sad I couldn't vote for her for the favorite Sanrio character contest. She's not my actual favorite- Aggretsuko is my favorite but... I figured no one was voting for Spottie Dottie so I might have voted for her. Probably not... Aggretsuko is my spirit animal... but still!

That's all I guess. I just feel like Spottie Dottie deserves some credit... and I'm a fan!
