Throwback Thursday: All the Christmas and Holiday Movies I’ve seen in Theaters

Okay so there's not a lot of magical Christmas movies released in theaters anymore- and that's okay... but I'm going to talk about some of the movies I remember seeing in theaters and what was so magical about it.

The Polar Express

I'm just going to be 100% honest I do not enjoy this movie today. I love the book- I've heard the Polar Express Experience is really great and magical and seeing this in theaters as a child was fun... but also the kids in this movie are sooo annoying and horrible it kind of takes away from the magical scene at the end... Which I will watch on TV if I see it. This was magical as a child... as an adult not so much.

Elf

Elf was a really fun movie to see in theaters- but I think I liked it better when I watched it at home because my sister liked it so much it was more fun to watch. I can watch this movie all the time. It's so good. I love the ending of this movie and it did make me Really believe in Santa and it still does.

Love Actually

Okay- this is the movie I probably shouldn't have seen as a kid... but I did see it as a kid- except the segment I had to cover my eyes for- which I didn't even see until recently. This was so romantic and sad to me as a kid... and even if I didn't fully understand all the segments and the pain through them- it's really good.

I also loved rewatching this as an adult and picking up on things like Liam Neesan's character calling the girl he meets at the end Emma Thompson's characters name... I like this one a lot.

The Holiday

Along the same lines as Love Actually is possibly my favorite Christmas Rom Com: The Holiday. This movie is just so sweet... I love the story with Iris befriending the old man... this is just a cute story. Idk if these couples would stay together or not- but I still like it!

Four Christmases

Okay now for a Rom Com I don't like that much... Four Christmases. I don't really like this movie... I think maybe I've watched part of this movie one time since I saw it in theaters... and that's just because I couldn't find the remote one year. I know people love this movie but I don't even know if I like it. I should maybe give it another chance but... this isn't a great Christmas rom com.

Jingle All The Way

This is probably the first Christmas movie I saw in theaters. And this one was really fun to see in theaters because it was a big deal at the time- Arnold was in it and I love Arnold... I think I thought this was a totally different movie than it was. I thought Arnold was the actor that played Turbo Man and that Sinbad's character played the villain on the show and that that was their jobs... and I thought this until I watched the movie again last year and realized they were just 2 guys trying to get a Turboman doll.

I kind of like my version better- there's something funny about the actor playing Turboman not being able to get a Turboman doll... but that's not the movie. Still a fun one to see if you were 5 when this came out... and I think I stayed awake for it!

Serendipity

This is also an early Christmas movie I remember seeing in theaters. This isn't really a Christmas Movie but it does take place around the holidays for the most part I think and it does show New York City in the winter- which is great. I actually saw this movie serendipitously with my mom because we were going to see On The Line- but that was either sold out or at a different time than it said in the paper or

Something- so we saw this and we saw On The Line the next week... so this was great. I really liked this!

Jack Frost

As a kid- it was sort of like a contest to see a sad movie and cry in it. This was probably one of those movies to me- otherwise I really don't remember it and I don't think it was great.

Disney's A Christmas Carol

I saw this in 3D and it was cool and scary to watch in 3D but... I don't really like Robert Zemekis animation... and this was that... so it's not my favorite idk if I've seen it since seeing it in theaters.

Dr. Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas

I think I saw this movie twice in theaters because I saw it for some kids birthday party but I also saw it with my sister I think too. I liked this a lot as a kid and as an adult. This was one I used to watch every year... but now I'm a little tired of it- except for the Mayor's tonsils being removed twice which my boyfriend quotes all the time and I think it's adorable.

Illumination's The Grinch

My boyfriend and I saw this when we first started dating... and we were late for the beginning because... we just started dating. Anyway- this was a fun movie to see in theaters and I haven't watched it a lot since then... but I'm glad There's an animated version and it's not just the original movie which is excellent but short- and the Jim Carey Version... which I've gotten a little tired of through the years!

The Santa Clause 2

There may be more movies that I just can't remember right now but I definitely want to conclude with the most magical one to young Shannon: The Santa Clause 2. This showed the North Pole better than any movie at the time- and I always really liked that. This movie made Santa and everything make sense... it was funny and cute and overall just a good movie. For years this was the only movie of the trilogy I liked... and for a while it was my least favorite... but I'm starting to like it a a bit more

Again and either way... that North Pole just makes sense to me. This is possibly my favorite North Pole!

Okay that is everything! I hope you guys like this Christmas Throwback Thursday!

Bye!

-Shannon
