Throwback Thursday: A Walk To Remember
Okay- I think I'm going to do another post including this movie with other Nicholas Sparks movies- BUT I had to do a solo post on this one specifically because it's a little bit crazy and I really liked it as a kid and didn't remember all the crazy!
So this stars Mandy Moore- which was a big deal for young Shannon because I was a huge fan of her music but I don't think she acted before this... I could be wrong but yeah and I'm a fan of her acting and voice acting as well! And the song she sings for this movie "Only Hope" I didn't remember was her song or a song from this movie... so that was impressive!
Anyway Jamie (Mandy Moore) is the nerdy, religious smart girl at school... and she is 100% a manic pixie dream girl... but no one knows it because she's so smart and so nerdy. Her dad is a pastor too... so again- more religion and she's raised by a strict single dad.
Shane West who plays... Landon is a bad boy. He's popular and he and his friends go out drinking and they wreak havoc somehow and he gets arrested. I watched this over the course of a few days very late at night so I don't remember all of the beginning.
Anyway as part of his punishment he has to tutor kids, he has to join the drama club, and he has to be the janitor or something. So all of these things have him near Jamie. He gets the male lead in the drama club where she's one of the female leads and she sings that song I mentioned before and he realizes he's in love with her and she's a manic pixie dream girl.
She mentions a to do list to him and he takes her on a date and then he starts getting some of her to do list things done.
Her dad is really strict and tells her "you shouldn't date him. You've got to be honest with him." Which seems weird- but then she tells him that she has Leukemia and Landon gets really mad...
So Landon is mad and he goes to his dad- who he doesn't really get along with and who's a doctor and he says "Dad, my girlfriend has cancer. Can you please cure her cancer now." And his dad doesn't do it... which is just kind of rude and I can see why Landon was really upset. His dad did end up helping with the cancer- but I think he said he was a cardiologist so... he couldn't just cure cancer right there.
Anyway he ends up finding out what the number 1 thing on her list is and... I was going to spoil this movie right there- you probably know the end by now but yeah Landon does it... and it's very sweet. It made preteen Shannon cry when she saw it in theaters and then again when she watched it on VHS... because yes I had this on VHS.
Anyway the other thing I want to mention about this movie is the SOUNDTRACK because it's one of the best movie soundtrack's ever. The songs are just nonstop with it too. Not just the Mandy Moore songs but it's got Switchfoot, it's got Dancing In The Moonlight, there's a song called Mother We Just Can't Get Enough (there's something about you is the chorus so it took me a bit to find out what this was called.) This has good songs from the 2000's.
So yeah. Crazy movie- I'll talk more about it amongst other Nicholas Sparks movies but this was good!
Bye!
-Shannon
