ThriftBooks Haul: James Bond, Nonfiction, YA Vampires and Dear America

Okay so I bought a lot from ThriftBooks lately and I figured I'd do a little haul- I posted one to TikTok, Instagram and facebook- so you can follow me on TikTok and Instagram @shannonsface and follow me on facebook by knowing me in real life and having a facebook page. Lol.

The first book I got was not from ThriftBooks- but was actually from a small bookstore in upstate New York I believe called The Dog Eared book- and the lady that owns The Dog Eared book has a really nice TikTok with some really great book recommendations! So the book I got was Every Heart A Doorway- which is the first book in a fantasy series and it is really short. I could probably read it in a day or two- it seems like a really good quick read. I think it's about what happens after you visit a place like Narnia... and it was highly recommended by the owner of The Dog Eared book and I thought that sounded great!

Now onto Thriftbooks- so what I wanted to buy was a nonfiction book called The Devil's Candy by Julie Salaman. I had mentioned on myreadsbooks on TikTok that I wanted to read more nonfiction- somewhat more interested in history and thinking of looking more into rock history and maybe movie history to start with. Someone in the comment section recommended this book- which is a story about a Hollywood fiasco... which sounds right up my ally. So I"m really excited to read this one and maybe I'll post a TikTok about it and that lady will find it.

I also got Moonraker. I pretty much always get a Bond Book when I'm on Thriftbooks- I heard this is the best one... I have seen every single James Bond movie- and this one was not my favorite- althogh I did really like Jaws coming back in it and I'm sure Jaws is not in the book... but yeah. Really excited to read it! My best friend really liked it too!

I also had Trevor Noah's book on my list for a while. Trevor Noah has an interesting life and perspective on things- I had heard this book was funny. I kind of thought my boyfriend might like this book because he read Dick Gregory's memoir- which he also said was very funny.

And then I got the book Marked which I got because I had a free book credit- so this was my free book. I had seen this book cover a lot when I was in high school- it's a YA Vampire series- the first in the House of Night Series specifically... so yeah! I thought it would be good to pick this up finally and read it. These covers look cool.

Next up... I went completely unhinged with my nostalgia and I got 13 Dear America Books. The Dear America series was a series I had a lot of as a child. These are historical fictions that are told by young girls during different periods in American history. They also all look like diaries in the hardcover version and they have ribbon book marks... which I loved as a kid. I have to admit I had so many of these books as a kid- but I think I only read one all the way through... and they've been donated since then. It'd be a little crazy if these were my old books... but these were very cheap on Thriftbooks and if I read all of these... I'll probably order more.

Anyway the ones I got:

I Thought My Soul Would Rise and Fly the diary of Patsy, a Free Girl set in South Carolina in 1865. This was written by Joyce Hanson. I actually think Joyce Hanson wrote some other books on African American history that I think I also read as a child. For some reason I thought the Dear America books were all written by white men... so I'm glad they weren't. This one also won a Pulitzer I think? It won some sort of award. This was really good from what I remember as a kid- and I think I want to read more.

I got A Coal Miner's Bride: The Diary of Annetka Kaminska- which I remember was my cousin's favorite. This one is by Susan Campbell Bartoletti.

These are all very long titles... so I might not go through them all right now. But I have one about a Navajo Girl that was recommended on TikTok or YouTube, one about The Titanic, World War II, Pearl Harbor, The Alamo, Suffragette diary, Gold Rush, Vietnam War, one about the Spanish Influenza Pandemic written by Lois Lowry, The Great Depression- which takes place at a school for the blind I think, and one of their Royal Diaries series about Anastasia. I will probably do a few posts on these when I read them- I'm thinking of doing reviews of 3 at a time since these are shorter books.

Alright that is everything. I hope you guys like this!

Bye!

-Shannon
