Thoughts after Watching Every James Bond Movie
Alright everyone! Quite recently I’ve finished watching every single James Bond movie. Even the Unofficial ones! I have a lot of thoughts on the franchise. Overall I loved it! I think I’ll post my ranking here- I’m not going to go over every single one… but I’ll go over some fun details!
So… from worst to best…
25. You Only Live Twice - I don’t think this was the actual worst. I enjoyed watching it… but the early James Bond movies are very problematic… and this one was probably the worst in that regards. Pretty offensive.
24. Dr. No- First James Bond Movie ever! It looks really bad compared to the others- but it’s okay!
23. From Russia with Love
22.Quantum of Solace- this one was weird.
21. Her Majesties Secret Service- I like the plot of this movie… not a fan of George Lazenby as Bond.
20. Thunderball- this one has some weird history because the guy that co-wrote thunderball with Ian Flemming basically kept remaking this movie. Once in Never Say Never Again and then he wrote another one... but I don’t think that got made. Never Say Never Again starred Sean Connery after he had finished his run as James Bond… so that was odd.
19.Spectre - I was so disappointed in this movie! This is probably the most disappointed I was in any bond movie… plus it ends the same as Austin Powers Goldmember.
18. Moonraker - this one was silly. I love Jaws though!
17. The Spy Who Loved Me
16. The Man With The Golden Gun- Agent Goodnight is maybe the worst Bond Girl.
15. Living Daylights - I like Timothy Dalton‘s run as Bond. He’s not my favorite- but he was just so grumpy!
14. License to kill - Gladys Knight did an awesome song with this one.
13. No Time To Die-
Im kind of upset with how this ended. I also didn’t like the Nanobots that much.
12. Die Another Day- This was the first Bond movie I saw in theaters. And I still think it’s really fun, but maybe a little boring. And probably the second worst Bond song.
11. The World Is Not Enough
10. A View To A Kill - This one is just kind of silly and this is the one I use for the standard of how much I like a Bond Movie.
9.,For Your Eyes Only
8. Diamonds are Forever
7. Goldfinger - I really liked this one.
6. Casino Royal- I also liked this one a lot. This is the only other one I saw in theaters!
5. Goldeneye- favorite Bond song and I have a soft spot for Pierce Brosnan because he’s the bond I grew up with and I think he’s handsome.
4. Tomorrow Never Dies- I’m surprised I have this one ranked higher than Goldeneye. I liked the newspaper concept.
3. Octopussy- I don’t remember this one too well… but it was really cool.
2. Skyfall - I really really liked this one. This was just really fun to watch and I wasn’t expecting much from it. It’s also Home Alone at the end.
1. Live and Let Die - This one is THE BEST! I really like Roger Moore as Bond, I love Jane Seymour and I think she did a great job. Best Bond Song hands down and probably my favorite villain.
I’m not sure if I have a favorite Bond… but each of them brings something to the table.
Sean Connery- he set the standard and he was the “playboy bond” that definitely drank the most and got a lot of girls.
George Lazenby- he was a more emotional bond- despite being in only one movie. I don’t think he was great as Bond, but he was the first different bond and I think that helped the other bonds.
Roger Moore- Roger Moore’s movies were sillier compared To the others and he did a good job of keeping serious concepts more lighthearted. You could also tell for the first time with Moore that Bond was a serious agent and he had strategies and reasons behind what he was doing.
Timothy Dalton- He was the grumpy bond. It was cool to see a somewhat edgier bond- I wish he had gotten a third movie.
Pierce Brosnan- The best combination of both Roger Moore and Sean Connery. He wanted the movies to be a little darker too and I feel like they could have used his ideas more in Die Another Day.
Daniel Craig- His bond was a little more serious and seemed disconnected from the world. He had a good relationship with Judy Dench’s M but that was about it. He seemed more troubled than the other bonds.
The Unofficial James Bond movies… they’re just not that good. We have Never Say Never Again- which starred Sean Connery after Roger Moore had been cast as the official James Bond. We also have a parody version of Casino Royale that was bad and not that funny and a TV movie of casino Royale which was boring- but the first time James Bond was filmed.
James Bond parodies… are fun to watch after having watched every James Bond. Austin Powers is almost a James Bond movie… there’s so much that isnt even that more outlandish than what happens in the Bond movies. The later Daniel Craig movies even borrow Things from The Austin Powers movies and it’s pretty clear!
I also watched the first Johnny English movie and I have the other 2 on dvd… and that’s a funny parody too. Some things they do are pretty similar to James Bond- but I feel like that’s its own movie too.
So that is everything I think! I might do more posts about James Bond- and of corse- you know me… I’m reading the books too. And I like the books too!
Bye! -Shannon
