The Quest to find the Bicentennial Man I remembered as a Kid
Okay... so this is something I remembered as of recently that my boyfriend did not remember... he is 5 years younger than me... so this makes sense. I was 8 at the time so... yeah. There was an ad that featured a really funny line that was not in the movie. And the movie itself really wasn't that funny it was very sad.
So the concept of Bicentennial Man is Robin Williams is a robot but he's very smart and he really connects with this family and then he tries to become human... and then I think in the end he's trying to die? And he has to go to court or something? I'm not really sure- I haven't seen this movie since I saw it in theaters when I was 8... so this has been a while.
The commercial I remember as a kid had the girl robot of the movie singing "U G L Y You ain't got no Alabi You Ugly" when the Robin Williams Robot's face is lifted and his gears in his head are exposed. And that moment was not in the movie... and the movie was actually pretty sad so I was a little disappointed. I didn't think it was bad but I never really wanted to watch it again.
If you look up the ad on YouTube- it doesn't show that moment. There are people that remember it but... it's not well documented... so I had to search for it. I figured that when I was 8 I was probably watching Nickelodeon- I don't think we had Disney Channel then- and so I looked up Nickelodeon ads in December 1999- right before the movie was released and I found it!
At 4:20 (haha) of this video there's an ad for Bicentennial man that is the one I remember... and I'm glad it's documented.
I did go a little crazy trying to find this. I watched a lot of clips and trailers... I might eventually watch the full movie again- but it's not a great movie. It's so long and so sad...
But yeah- that's the ad. I like watching ads now- especially holiday ads from the 90s and 2000s.
Bye!
