The Love Hypothesis Book Review

Alright… this book is a little bit cheesy but it is so cute and such a nice, easy read that I feel like it’s impossible to read this and not smile at some of it at least. It’s very, very cute.

So this is a fake dating story between a PhD student and a professor at Stanford University. Olive, the student is upset that her friend won’t date this guy that is perfect for her just because Olive went out with him briefly and she never really cared about him as more than a friend… so she lies and tells her friend that she’s out on a date with someone else… but she actually does more research instead. When her friend sees her- she quickly kisses the first guy she sees in the hallway- Dr. Adam Carlson- a very harsh professor at their university. The two then continue to fake date because Adam is afraid they’ll freeze his grant money because they think of him as a flight risk… but he thinks if he has a girlfriend-he’s not a flight risk.

This book has a lot of excellent tropes in it. Fake Dating, Grumpy Sunshine, guy falling first… if you like any of those tropes this book is FANTASTIC for that. The love story is also just very cute between the two… it really develops very quickly where they have a great friendship and then they get feelings... and chapter 16 happens and it’s HOT. Like… as cheesy as some of this book is… the smut in this is not really cheesy at all. It’s very sweet and it’s pretty good.

There were also some really funny moments in this book and the way Ali Hazelwood writes it… it just seems very animated and even the cheesy over the top moments were really funny in a kind of cartoonish way. I often times pictured the cartoonish animation on the front cover of this book as the book because… the way it was written was just very funny in a cartoonish way. I really liked it.

So yeah- I gave this book 4 stars originally… I feel like thats a bit harsh and I could totally give it 5 stars just because it was so fun to read and I think back on it so fondly… but at the same time- it’s not a masterpiece… it’s just a fun read.

I started reading the excerpt of Love on The Brain included in this and… I wasn’t that impressed by it… so I’m interested to see what people think of that book… I want to read it but… I wanna know what people think first.

Anyway hope you guys found this review useful!

Bye! -Shannon
