Taking a long Greyhound for a vacation: What I Would do differently

Okay so on my vacation recently my boyfriend and I went on the Greyhound bus to go to Massachusetts and to go home... and I think if I were to do it again- I'm not entirely sure I would take the greyhound for that long of a trip.

I don't know that I would necessarily want to take the Amtrak trains either- I imagine it's more comfortable but... it was also like $700 for both of us compared to the greyhound's $200... soooo kind of take that as you will.

The easiest solution is probably just driving- but we've never really driven in a city and that made us a bit nervous. Plus with no car- we didn't have to worry about a designated driver and we could drink freely if we wanted to. Not that we wanted to get drunk in a city we don't know- but there were bars right nearby the hotel and it was kind of fun to just have a few drinks and walk right back to the hotel.

Anyway the Greyhound: it was cramped. Saying it was cramped was an understatement actually. Our trip to Boston was on a Bolt Bus and there was very little room for our arms and legs. I basically slept most of the time because there was really no room to read or anything either. My boyfriend brought his switch so he played the new Zelda game a lot and I played some sudoku from a book- which again not a lot of room for- and spider solitaire on my phone.

There is also Wi-Fi on the bus... but it really doesn't work that well. What we ended up doing on the ride home was downloading movies from Disney Plus to watch for the train- we watched Flubber and The Pacifier... which are good movies you don't need to pay much attention to. And we couldn't sync two sets of headphones- so we just played them quietly with subtitles. Other people on the bus were playing movies and music also.

Ohhh also a headphone tip- I dropped a headphone on my way in- so I would not recommend wireless earbuds that just go in your ear. I would recommend the larger ones that go around your head rather than the earbuds. We just hit a bump and I thought we lost it for good- but my boyfriend found it right under the seat. I lysoled it and I want to clean it A bit more before I use it again.

The regular greyhound we took home had a little more space and it had charging ports to it- so id recommend bringing chargers and wireless chargers and wall plugs... I didn't lose much battery life in my phone or anything but I could have... so that's good to know.

They do let you put a bag under the bus- and you can do one per person. We just had one suitcase but a lot of carry ons and not a lot of overhead space on the bus. So that was a bit hard- but we were able to fit everything in and it was just a bit uncomfortable to hold things on our lap. Overall everything was okay.

We also didn't really have time to grab something to eat- our driver needed a bathroom break so we had a quick bathroom break. Other than that our stops were not really that long- we could get up a bit- and we might have had time to use the bathroom or grab food- but it wasn't really much time so we didn't really want to do that and risk missing the bus.

So overall I don't know that I would take the greyhound back to Boston- it was a bit uncomfortable and a bit of a hassle- but it was an affordable way to travel and it was easier than trying to drive ourselves.

Bye!
