Story Sunday: This is what happens if you’re late to a Broadway Play

So as you guys know- I saw Hadestown this week and my boyfriend and I were really excited to go into the city. We went on a train that would have given us about an hour to have lunch and explore the city before going to see the matinee of the show... but it's NJ Transit... which isn't always the most reliable way to travel- despite it being pretty close to the theater.

We ended up getting delayed and we arrived at 2pm- right when the show was starting. We panicked- we didn't even know if we should bother trying to get in- but I thought "well we've got nothing else to do- let's just try and see if they let us in. It's a long shot- but we can try."

So we took a subway to get to the theater- we don't go to New York that often and neither of us has a great sense of direction so we got lost a little bit... and we stopped to consider if we should even bother getting in. We were tired, hungry and we both had to pee... but we made it to the theater.

There were a bunch of people outside. There were people with the box office I guess- it has a different name than the theater- but that was the name that was on my tickets. There was a guy holding a doordash bag that I just thought was delivering something to one of the actors or something- there was someone that was wearing a hat that kind of looked like he belonged in the play- so I just figured he was an actor and maybe they were his security.

So like... I was wrong about all my assumptions. The well dressed man asked if we had tickets and he checked my bags and just told us to go in the theater- so we did. We got in during the song "Living it up" which is the 6th song. We were like 20 minutes late... but they let us in! They took us in the back and then waited for a cue to usher us to our seats and then we were in!

So we wouldn't recommend coming in late- it seemed a bit like a waste of money but if you are running late... the Walter Kerr theater will let you in up to 30 minutes after (I saw people later than us) and they just look through your bag- let people know what seats are coming in- and that's it!

Not sure if we'll do matinees anymore or use a different transportation to get to the city just because they do have a lot of delays with NJ transit... but at least we know what happens.

Bye!
