Shannon’s Reviews: The Whale

The Whale starring Brendan Fraser is a movie I feel like I've heard mixed things about. I've heard the movie is okay or bad but the performance from Brendan Fraser is excellent. I don't know that this movie could have worked with any other actor- but I did actually enjoy the movie in general.

Brendan Fraser plays an overweight man who has bad heart problems and is dying- but he also refuses any medical help- even though he has money for it. He's been estranged from his daughter for years- and he tries to reconnect with her in the movie and basically just show her that he loves her.

A lot of the characters in this movie are very dark and almost seem irredeemable if I remember correctly- but Brendan Fraser's interactions with them are all pretty positive and it seems very hopeful.

Brendan Fraser definitely deserved the Oscar for this. I loved Austin Butler in Elvis- but Brendan Fraser's performance was just kind of incomparable Honestly. It was great.

I'd check it out if it's streaming or if you see it. I bought the dvd because it was actually not that expensive- and idk if I'll watch it again but I do think it's worth owning.
