Shannon’s Adventures: Going to New York to see The People’s Joker at IFC Center
So as I reviewed on Monday- I saw The People’s Joker in New York on Saturday and it was really awesome!
My number ONE tip for seeing a movie at IFC- get there as soon as you can! Especially if you’re seeing with a group. I’m used to assigned seating and this did not have assigned seating. We might have been the last 2 people in the theater and we ended up sitting right in the front. It’s okay though if you are late because honestly the seats were fine and comfortable. No one was sitting right next to us and we were a little bit at an angle- but the screen was nice and big and the seats weren’t so close to the screen that it would give us a headache or anything. It was kind of just right.
The good thing about sitting close up is that we were right in front for the Q&A. I’m sure that the people they had involved in the movie were able to see how much I enjoyed the movie- which I thought was important… but the one kind of drawback to this was that we saw the first of 2 showings of the night…so they had to kind of wrap up the showing and they only took 2 questions from the audience… which I guess is fine- there was an interview portion before they took audience questions and they did answer a lot with that portion… but I didn’t know what to ask and I would have liked to get a chance to ask something.
The ifc center also has really cool merchandise. I got a long sleeve shirt that says “I’m The People’s Joker Baby” and it has the scene of Joker in the movie dancing down the stairs which I loved that scene! There was also a short sleeved white one that said “I watched The People’s Joker and now I’m Trans” which was super cool- but I’m not trans so I couldn’t get that one. They also had David Lynch stuff there, they had a tote bag with little pictures of all his work and a really nice colorful t shirit with it. My boyfriend got the t shirt and I got the tote bag. The people running the food and merch booths are also amazing. They had to kind of look for some of the sizes that had sold out- but they were really organized and got everything out quickly.
Getting to the theater was also nice. We took the train to Newark Penn Station and then took the path to the World Trade Center station, and then we walked right to the center. I’m not sure what street we walked down- but we did pass some cool things like the Jackie Robinson museum, which I think we would like to go to someday… and if we had went a different way we could have passed the Ghostbusters building… which we were definitely planning on taking pictures of. We didn’t pass it- so we didn’t stop there… but that would have been really cool.
There is a subway station right nearby if you don’t feel like walking for about a half hour- but it is not a hard walk if you want to look around a bit. It’s nice.
We didn’t really get a chance to do anything besides eat and then head to the show- but there’s a lot to do and a lot to see around the area- plus it wasn’t too busy going a week after Easter. It was the emptiest I had seen NYC since I went on Christmas with my sister. It was really nice- and the weather was really nice. It was a fun day!
So that’s everything! I hope you guys like this!
Bye!
