Shannon Reads: The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
So this book... I already did a mini review on that was spoiler free because... I hadn't finished it at the time yet... but having finished it... it did pretty much go exactly as I expected it to go. I had kind of narrowed down the possible killers and victims and... I was pretty much right.
And the killer and the victim aren't really revealed till the end. You do find out its a woman pretty early on. We also only get the perspectives of Emma, Miranda, Katie, Heather and Doug- which is done from a third person POV instead of first person like the others. Heather and Doug aren't in the party- they work for the hotel. Heather's chapters take place after the killing and I think everyone else's are before. Doug's might be some before and some after but... his are the most mysterious.
And... there are enough hints to who the characters are that you might really see what their motives are and... you can guess a few things about them. Like Miranda is kind of bitchy and beautiful and she has a stalker. Emma is only in the group because she's someone's girlfriend and she's been in the group later than everyone else... so it seems. Katie is quiet and she has a secret... and is pregnant.
We get to know the men of the group too who are all have tempers... so it's easy to see any of these people being the possible killer. Julien Miranda's husband has many secrets, Mark has a crush on Miranda and is the most violent of the group, Bo and Nick are both not shown a lot in the book but... they seem to have tempers and some grudges. And then there's Giles who is known as the funnyman of the group- but we do see a very serious temper from him at one point in the book... so he seems like he could be a suspect. Plus it is believed that the stalker is someone in the friend group because they seem too close to Miranda to not know her that welll... and it just seemed like someone that maybe knew her really well.
There were a few twists at the end... but you pretty much knew what was going on and honestly I was pretty impressed that a lot of small details and loose ends were actually solved by the end of the story. Like there's an Icelandic couple that was not supposed to be at the hotel the same time as the main group and Miranda sees them having sex in the woods... which foreshadows a couple of events but... there's also kind of a resolution as to why that happened in the end too. It wasn't just some weird gross out scene... there was reason for it- if they make a movie of this (which I believe they are) they will probably keep this in and it might seem weird but... there's sort of a reason.
So yeah. I feel like this review is all over the place... I kind of want it to be spoiler free because I think people should read this book- it's pretty good book even though it's a little predictable... it's still an exciting ending and sometimes its good to be predictable because you don't want an ending out of left field or an unbelievable twist. I would definitely read more from Lucy Foley- I actually have The Guest List and I'll probably read that after reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo- which is what I'm reading now.
Alright- that is everything. Hope you guys like this review... I might have gone off on some tangents- I'm just kind of getting over some grogginess from getting my second vaccine... and it's also around 1am so... This might not be the best post on this blog but... it's a review. Lol.
Bye!
