Shannon Reads: Daisy Jones and The Six By Taylor Jenkins Reid Review
Okay! My first book review- this is actually the first book I've read of 2021... so I' m a bit late starting the reading game this year... but I started it with a bang and a really good and interesting book! Daisy Jones and The Six is a fictional Rock Biography about a band that is loosely based off of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Knicks... it's an easy read because it's told in the style of a rock biography. Like each of the characters is being interviewed... you get a narrative kind of more based on what isn't said and the events in between the story than what is said in the book almost... it's really interesting and... I like that there's no main narrator really- there are 2 main characters- but the side characters are just as entertaining if not more so... it's just really good.
So The Six started out as a band of 2 brothers- Billy and Graham Dunne. Then they added 2 other brothers- Eddie and Pete loving, Warren Rhodes on the drums and Karen Karen on the keyboard. And Karen Karen has a real last name- but Karen Karen kind of stuck... they don't really mention it after that... but it's kind of cool. But they released a few albums, they did a tour and they got pretty popular and Billy- the lead singer ended up getting his girlfriend pregnant, marrying her, cheating on her with a bunch of women on tour, getting addicted to drugs and alcohol and then got sober because his wife said "You can either quit now and meet your daughter or go to rehab and then meet her. And Billy decides to go to rehab and he got clean and then he finally met his daughter Julia... and it was really sweet and he started writing some more songs.
Daisy Jones is an It Girl with a famous father that is absolutely gorgeous, very stylish and naturally talented with her singing. She makes an album called First and then she goes on tour with The Six and they feature her in one of their singles called Honeycomb- a song written about Billy's wife Camila for her and their family and their future.
When Daisy Jones joins the six- not only is their music better because her writing is really good and brings so much to the song... but she and Billy also have this insane chemistry working together that is just Dynamic and it is really something to watch and to witness. It ends in them being rivals and of corse an attraction to each other and... it gets messy.
Not only is Daisy bringing turmoil to the band- but there's some jealousy between Eddie and Billy, there's a thing with Karen and one of the other bandmates... there are a lot of side stories and a lot of stories we don't hear. Some people in the band are not featured in the narrative as much- and there's one member of The Six that is not in the book at all... so you aren't getting everyone's point of views... and it's just really good all together. There's a lot of story and subtext in between everything.
And the end of the story is surprising... it isn't a big twist... but it's a very sweet twist that kind of puts a different spin on the rest of the story. Overall I really liked how the book ended even if it's not totally what I thought it would be... its interesting.
So that is everything! I hope you guys like this!
Bye!
