Shannon Goes To The Movies: The Super Mario Brothers Movie

Alright I saw The Super Mario Brothers movie and while I don't think it was a perfect movie I really only have one complaint about it: Not enough Mario and Luigi together. All I want is Mario and Luigi in a Mario movie together being brothers... they weren't together in this movie all that much.

So my boyfriend and his friends really wanted to see this movie together- so we got a group of a bunch of people all to see the movie together... but the only problem was we couldn't all get seats together- so it was a little bit odd that everyone was in pairs but it was still a fun movie to see together.

I also spilled my boyfriend and my popcorn bucket...so that wasn't fun. I was going to get a refill after- but then we went out to eat at a pub after... so yeah. Didn't get the refill.

Okay so my actual review of the movie... I loved it. I typically kind of like Illumination movies and I grew up playing Mario on the Game Boy Color a lot- so this movie was very nostalgic because it was similar to playing a game of Mario or Mariocart. I think there was even a Luigi's Mansion reference and probably some other references too. I don't know all the games that well- but they were fun.

The concept of this movie was kind of fun too. Mario quits his job to start a plumbing business with Luigi- and it's not going great but then there's a huge leak in Brooklyn and he and Luigi might be the only 2 that can fix it... so Luigi discovers this pipe that ends up leading him to the Dark Kingdom and Mario to the Mushroom Kingdom. Luigi gets captured by Bowser and Mario meets up with the Princess to plan to beat Bowser.

A lot of the plan has Mario jumping and getting power ups. There is also of corse a Donkey Kong scene and then the Rainbow Road scene. And it was fun to see those in a movie- but if you do know the game really well- which most of the audience did... you kind of know what's coming. Not a bad thing... it was really cute and definitely better than the Sonic the Hedgehog movies... but you kind of know how it is.

All in all I cannot complain about a Super Mario Brothers Movie... yes even the live action movie... so it was just kind of nice to sit down and enjoy the movie.

There was also a little girl in the audience that was so excited for the post credits scene! She knew it was coming because a certain character was not in the movie and he appears in the post credits scene... and she knows a lot about this character.... so yeah. I just overheard the little girl and her mom talk about this in the theater and it was really funny. I'm glad kids like Mario a lot.

My boyfriend, his friend and I ate at the mall's food court before and then after we went out to a bar/restaurant nearby because his friends hadn't eaten yet and it was open late... so we just kind of sat and talked and it was just fun to catch up. No one talked about the movie a lot- but everyone seemed to really like it and it was fun. My letterboxed score of it was 3 and a half- I put 4 on the AMC Stubs website because they don't do half stars and I did really like it a lot. I'm sure there's going to be sequels and more from this movie and I will happily watch any of them.

That's my whole review and theater going experience. Let me know what you thought of it!

Bye!
