Scream Sunday: Scream (2022) Review
Alright- so I finally saw the new Scream movie. I've heard some people love it- some people were disappointed in it... there are some things I wished had been different but overall I thought it was a great movie and... there's no Scream movie I don't like and none that I wouldn't watch.
My main problem with the movie was that the new cast was a little bit bland. They weren't bland characters, I really liked the twins, and Sam and Tara... but they didn't really get showcased enough. And when Ghostface was revealed... it just didn't really have that much of an impact. I guess it mirrored the original Scream the best... and maybe that would be something I'll appreciate more on a second watch but... there were a lot of times where it seemed like there would have been more of a twist. A lot of people say they kind of rushed the ending and Ghostface didn't really have a great motive.
There was a lot of fan service in this movie... and I kind of loved it. It was pretty subtle- I definitely missed some of the cameos... but there was one major cameo that... wasn't really a cameo at all- it was kind of a main character. It isn't really a spoiler... it happens early on in the movie... but it surprised me so I don't want to say what it is... I'll just say... there's a past ghostface killer that is a hallucination in this movie... and... I liked it. It felt nice but... I feel like it gave to much credit to that particular Ghostface killer when... I think Stu is the better Ghostface... sorry for the slight spoiler there... but I really like Stu!
I feel like this movie was Dewey's movie more than anyone else in the original cast. He established the new rules for Scream 5, and he was the one that sort of told the new cast what to do and what to be careful of. He was the hero of this movie in the way that I would say Sydney was the hero of Scream 4.
Overall... I really liked the movie. It wasn't my favorite... I think I'd even say I liked Scream 4 better... but I liked the characters, I liked all the fan service and I hope they make more movies.
The directors of this movie also directed Ready or Not- which is one of my favorite horror movies of the last few years. I didn't like this movie as much as Ready or Not... but its pretty good!
Bye!
