Scream Sunday: Scream 2
Alright so the second Scream Movie... is sort of... an interesting one. This is a great example of a good Sequel in a series. It isn't necessarily the best movie- but it takes the world from Scream and expands it into something new and totally different. John Wick Chapter 2, Happy Death Day 2 U, and The Matrix are some other movies that I think do a good job of this- and are some of my favorite franchises... and that's probably not a coincidence. A bad sequel can totally kill a franchise and this one did not disappoint.
So this movie starts out in a familiar way... we see Jada Pinkett Smith (before she was Married to Will Smith- so she's just Jada Pinkett) and her boyfriend seeing the movie Stab- which is based off of the killings in the first movie... and of course... Everyone is dressed as Ghostface including Ghostface himself. The new killer is in the movie theater too and he kills yet another very famous actress right away... so Jada Pinkett Smith is not in the movie for long.
There's a lot that is different in this movie. Gale and Sydney are famous, Sydney is in college for film school... she's got a new boyfriend who is Jerry O'connell. Cotton- who Sydney wrongly accused of killing her mother is free and telling his story. There's a lot of stuff that happens... and it's all new and interesting.
This one and Scream 3 really focus on the movie series Stab... which I really liked for this movie. I have different feelings for Scream 3 and I didn't see Scream 4 yet... but in this movie I thought it was really fun and different. And I guess if I don't want to complain- the college setting is nice compared to the other 2 and I guess it makes the movie kind of different.
This also follows new rules. This is the first movie where a minor character that survived the previous movie dies in this movie. Scream 3 does that also- I don't know if Scream 4 does... but I can't think of any minor characters that survived the 3rd movie that aren't one of our main 3 that also appear in Scream 5... so I'm slightly interested as to what might happen in that. Maybe there's someone I don't remember or maybe a character that wasn't shown on screen dying isn't actually dead.
I also liked the reveal of the Ghostface Killers in this movie. The first killer I was disappointed in because he wasn't in the movie that long... but the second one was who I thought it was. There were some good moments.
Alright- that is everything I think I have to say About Scream 2. Hope you guys like this review and I'm excited to review Scream 3 next week because... it's an interesting one. It might be my favorite of the trilogy... but there was a lot I didn't like about it.
Bye!
