Scream 6 Review: Vague Spoilers

Alright- this is a movie I was unreasonably excited about and it lived up to my hype... kind of. Did it subvert my expectations? Mostly- but it still wasn't really how I thought it would be.

I'm going to say that I did really like the openening scene of the movie. I don't know if it was my favorite but it was definitely different from the rest of the franchise... and I would kind of liked to have known what would happen if this opening scene had gone differently. This would be a totally different slasher movie if this scene was just a little bit different. I may do a Movie Monday of this when the blu ray comes out because they could kind of do a Scream 6 and a half on this...

Did I guess who the Ghostface Killer or killers were? Kind of... so the thing with the scream movies is that once people die off the list kind of narrows down a bit... but this movie kind of gives you a reason to think everyone is a suspect and there are enough "clues" throughout the movie that you can see any one of these people as a suspect. Even the people that had been in movies before seem a little suspicious. Heck- Gale even seems a little suspicious and it's pretty obvious that she's not ghostface by this point... but they really do keep you guessing with it.

The trailers really made this ghostface seem like the most powerful ghostface... and I guess in a way there's some reasoning behind why Ghostface is so powerful... it makes sense. And this ghostface is different than the rest of them... so it makes sense.

This movie is also just kind of automatically scary because it takes place in New York and it is around Halloween. This does kind of follow the Scream 2 formula- but it is differeent enough that things aren't quite as predictable. The end scene of Scream 2 shows that Sydney really doesn't trust anyone and Sydney kind of sacrifices someone important to her because she isn't sure if she can trust him enough to save him... and it's just kind of interesting how Sam is a lot different than Sydney. I won't say much more to that... but there's a lot of growth for our surviving characters.

I'm not sure if this was my favorite Scream movie... but I was really happy with it. I kind of figured out the motive early on-but I don't think that's a bad thing. It didn't go totally out of the realm of possibility and it wasn't like the killer was Sydney or the Bodega Owner or something.. the killer was on the poster for this one also... which I like.

Okay- that is everything I'm going to say about this movie. Let me know what you thought about it and if you were as excited as I was!

Bye!

-Shannon
