Saw Sunday: The Rest of The Saw Movies

Okay so… I finished watching all the saw movies… and it’s hard to keep track of which one was which… soooooo here’s what I think of all of them. Overall I LOVED this franchise. It definitely went downhill after the first 4… but there are still some really good moments, some good traps and it was really fun.

Saw 3

Saw 3 is the best Saw Movie ever. As much as you hate Jigsaw for everything he’s done in the past 2 movies… in Saw 3 he’s dying and you really really want him to live. Only Tobin Bell can do this character justice… if they don’t have him in any other movies… no one can measure up. He’s just really great.

Saw 4

We get Jigsaw’s backstory here and a new accomplice… who was on Sex and the City as a hot priest that Samantha called Friar F*** so… I kept referring to him as Friar F***. He’s my least favorite villain in the franchise. But… this was still a pretty good movie despite not having a big twist. It was cool to see *spoilers* this movie took place at the same time as Saw 3 and kind of at Saw 2. I don’t think this was my favorite game… but I liked the players.

Also just got that Donnie Wahlberg was on a block of ice and… He’s in New Kids on the Block.

Saw 5

This one… was maybe my least favorite Saw Movie… and it had some good traps, it had some good reveals and stuff. BUT… my main complaint is that 1) The Villain and the hero of this movie look EXACTLY the same- and… you could only really tell who was who because the hero had to stab himself in the throat so his voice was hoarse. 2) the hero of this movie just NARRATED everything out loud… when it’s fairly simple. It was just badly written… and thats not why you watch the saw movies- I get that… but this was bad.

Saw 6

So I have to confess… I thought this was Saw: The Final Chapter and I thought there were only 8 movies. They all really blend together- but they’re good. Now I remember this one a little bit better and it was better than Saw 5. I remember feeling like I was in a lot of suspense in this one- and at this point I really hated Friar F*** so I wanted him dead at this point… This one was pretty okay!

Saw 7 aka Saw 3D aka Saw The Final Chapter

This one… was probably the actual worst. Like there’s almost no plot for this one at all. The end reveal doesn’t make sense. It was still more fun to watch than Saw 5 for me and I really liked the opening scene… so yeah. This was… a movie. The end reveal was fun even though it made no sense. it could potentially ruin other movies for you…. But it didn’t really for me. I don’t totally think of this as cannon and I won’t let it bother me the next time I watch Saw 1.

Jigsaw

I wish Spiral had followed this one up or referenced it at all. I think the accomplice in this movie was actually interesting and it was just a really good reveal… overall a good game… I just really liked this one.

Spiral

This isn’t a terrible movie… but its not my favorite. I liked that this was like a higher budget Saw Movie- it looked really good. Chris Rock’s character had a good backstory. But this reveal was SO OBVIOUS. Jigsaw hadn’t even had one line yet… and I guessed who it was immediately. Plus the cops all HATE Chris Rock for… almost no reason. It’s kind of bad. I liked it… but it wasn’t my favorite.

Some Games/ traps I want to mention

Okay really only one. The one with the Insurance guy… what an interesting trap… but also Jigsaw just killed a guy for Smoking!?!? I feel like that’s when Jigsaw just kind of killed anyone that looked at anyone the wrong way. But yeah. That one is memorable. Can I tell you what movie it’s from… I’m not sure but that was a good one.
