Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Lightening Thief Book Review

Okay I want to start reviewing some of the books I’ve read so far this year since I’ve read 13 so far this year… so let’s start with the first one I read which was the first Percy Jackson book.

So I like this book for a lot of reasons- this was my third time reading it but the first time I really realized this is probably the best YA Series in my opinion and I know it’s really popular but I kind of wish it was MORE popular because it’s just that good. I think it should be everywhere the way Harry Potter is.

So one thing I like about this book is that a lot of it takes place on the east coast and with east coast landmarks that I know. I also like that they use a lot of landmarks in this book because I always kind of liked that even as a kid. I’ve never been to a lot of the places in the book- but I still like learning about them. Plus I think that kind of helped me with reading even later on. I can picture the scenes playing out in my head when I read and I think this really helped me do that because the Greek Gods are characters I already knew and the places are places I’ve already been to.

This time reading it I really liked Annabeth. I feel like she’s not just the smart girl sidekick- but she’s also strategic and she has a lot of ideas that the other characters wouldn’t think of… but the other characters also have ideas that she wouldn’t think of and skills that she doesn’t have… and they balance each other really well. She’s a great friend and it’s not like they get jealous or angry at each other because of their different skills.

Ever since Hercules came out I always kind of liked Greek gods and I’m not an expert in the subject really- but it is something I like to know the stories of the mythology and what the characters are like. I thought the portrayal of these gods was really good. But I have to admit- Hades in this is a little bit scary. I see Hades as kind of a guy with a job more so than the other gods… but he’s a little scary and mean in this one. It makes sense but I just wanted to kind of point that out.

I think this was the first book I read this year… actually it might be the second because I may have finished Heartstopper first… but either way I really liked this book and it’s definitely worth reading over and over again.

I also watched a little bit of the Disney Plus show and I feel like the show got it a little bit more right than the first movie… but I still like the book better. I do also kind of like the first movie too… but I have some bad memories attached to it that maybe I’ll share in a blog post.

So that was everything!

Bye!
