My Review of Shrinking Now That The Season is Over
Okay- so one streaming service that I think I've started really loving a lot is Apple TV+ and I think this show is the best thing you can watch on there. It's funny, it's got heart and the cast is incredible... I just love it and it was a show that I really looked forward to watching each week.
So the show follows Jimmy- a recently widowed father who also happens to be a therapist and who also has several issues because of his wife's passing. He is trying to reconnect with his daughter- who he's sort of lost touch with because he's been partying a lot and just can't handle his grief. One day, he's with a patient who is talking about how much her verbally abusive husband loves her- and Jimmy just loses it and tells her to leave him because he's terrible and she can do better. And he really crossed a boundary with her... and he continues to cross boundaries with his patients and one even ends up living with him... and the season finale shows that all of these actions have consequences.
So there really isn't a character in this that I don't like and throughout the show the friend group just gets stronger and stronger and they're all just so funny to watch. There's sort of a romance- but it mostly feels like such a strong friendship that seems to be turning into a relationship that I hope they go into further next year... although I'm not sure they should really be together for several reasons... I think there will be payoff to why they end up together or apart.
Harrison Ford and Lilly Rabe together are also brilliant. This is a great role for Harrison Ford and I think Lilly Rabe as his daughter is just sort of perfect. They just seem like naturals together and they do a great job.
This is a great show- really fun... and it ends on a very literal cliffhanger that I really enjoyed.
Bye!
