Alright I was pretty excited about the new Blumhouse movie Drop. Blumhouse movies are kind of hit or miss for me but honestly they have some really great suspenseful thrillers- and I’ve been wanting a good suspseful movie like this.
I should preface this review by saying… there were some things that distracted me from the very beginning of the movie. My boyfriend and I were late because we wanted to eat at this new restaurant that we heard about… as it turned out this was not a full restaurant- it was just a tiny pizza place that played Fox News… they do have this whole restaurant attached also- but I guess the restaurant isn’t open all the time- however there is nothing saying that they were closed… and it took a while for them to make this pizza… and my boyfriend and I are not fans of the news network they had on… soooo that was a whole thing. And we went back to put the pizza away and we were late getting to the movie…
We were there as the opening credits were starting- BUT i had ordered popcorn and soda that was available to pick up at 6:20 and I had gotten a text message that it was available… so my boyfriend went to pick it up BUT there was a group of teenage boys all ordering popcorn and asking the girls a million questions about how much it cost and they kept adding onto the order… and no one was filling our mobile order. After like 8 minutes my boyfriend wasn’t back with the popcorn yet- I went to check on him… and he was still waiting for it! There were enough people there that they should have filled my mobile order… but they weren’t. So that took a while- and by the time we got back she was on the date at the bar… and she was getting The Drops.
So I had seen the part at the beginning where her husband told her to pull the trigger on him- I left around when she was with her sister choosing an outfit and I think I came back when she was at the bar and she met the guy on the blind date and the piano player and requested Baby Shark.
So… I wasn’t in the total suspenseful mindset needed for Drop… it was still good and enjoyable it just wasn’t the best time to watch it I guess. I still really enjoyed the movie and the suspense of it all… I wasn’t really concerned with finding out who did it as much as I wanted to know what was going to happen next- which is still a good way to have some suspense. I also liked the characters a lot. It reminded me a tiny bit of the movie Invisible Man- Just with the domestic abuse plot and in general… kind of people not necessarily believing the woman and things like that. It was good.
I also really liked the text they used throughout the movie so that we knew what her phone was saying without having to look at her phone the whole night. Plus it was easy to read and it still looked creepy.
I do think the trailer revealed a bit too much of the movie… they definitely didn’t really need to put as much of the movie as they did in the trailer… I think people would have gotten the idea if they just showed the drops and the 2 talking to each other in a date type way. They definitely shouldn’t have shown the window opening in the restaurant.
So yeah- overall this is really enjoyable! I definitely liked it more than Wolf Man and I haven’t seen the woman in the yard yet… but I’m sure it’s better than that also. This is definitely the kind of suspense that I wanted from the movie Flight Risk. That movie didn’t even come close to this one as far as suspense goes!
This is still a great movie overall- I saw an early access Movie but I would definitely say check it out when it comes out on Friday!
Bye!
