Movie Monday: Tv Shows Into Movies

Okay a few things to say about my upcoming Movie Mondays… I actually hand- wrote a review of the movie Flight with Denzel Washington that I just watched last night and… that movie is really bizarre. I need to actually type out my post for that because I forgot to bring my notebook I wrote it in to work with me… and that’s where I am now… so just know I have a bizarre movie Monday coming up… but it might be in a couple weeks because I am probably seeing Joker this weekend too… so that will hopefully be next weeks movie Monday… and then it’s spooky season and my birthday season… I’m not sure I’m feeling like watching spooky movies yet but we’ll see.

Anyway onto this weeks movie Monday- Tv Shows that get turned into movies. And I mean like the same cast and crew are behind it- Not a movie reboot of a classic show like Bewitched or Dark Shadows… maybe I’ll talk about those in another post… but today I’m talking about… mainly The Bob’s Burgers Movie because that’s what inspired the post.

The X Files: Fight The Future + I Want To Believe

So I’m going to start with The X Files: Fight The Future because I think this was the first of its kind. Usually with tv movies- they make a movie and that is ends the show or takes place after the ending of the show. The X Files Movie took place after Season 5 and Before Season 6… and although they did kind of make references to the show… it really doesn’t have anything to do with the show. You don’t need to have ever watched the show in order to watch and understand the movie. And there are references to the movie in season 6 of the X Files- but honestly that season is a little bit unique because you don’t really need to have seen any of the other seasons to see that season… it’s a lot of stand alone episodes.

Anyway I always thought this was pretty brilliant- the show was huge at the time… the movie was really good and it was probably something you could watch with your friends that didn’t watch the show… and it’s a good way to get into a show. I’m not sure if this strategy would really work today for any shows… but it seemed to work at the time.

There was also a second movie… which honestly kind of just stinks. I was really disappointed when I saw it in theaters because I had been waiting years for more X files stuff… and there was nothing supernatural and no aliens. It was sad.

The Bob’s Burgers Movie

I wish this movie was a little more popular… I’m a little sad that it came out when it did. It was kind of during the height of Covid 19… and I think it showed in theaters but it was harder to see movies in theaters at the time. I don’t know if I had been back to the movies yet at this time… but I wanted to see it in theaters and heard it was great and I just didn’t. It did release on Hulu at the same time I think because of that… and I like Bobs Burgers but I hadn’t been keeping up with the new seasons… but anyway I saw the movie this week and I loved it. It’s a really fun Bob’s Burgers adventure… I feel like Tina and Bob and Linda could have been in it a little more but it was still really great.

So this came out also in the middle of the show’s run… and I didn’t watch the season beforehand- but the TikToker Another Bad Salad mentioned that there were little plot details for the movie in the season leading up to the movie. Which is cool!

The Rugrats Movie

I wasn’t going to talk about kids movies like this because I might do another post on this…. But I just wanted to mention some of the best episodes of Rugrats in my opinion are the ones before The Rugrats Movie. The ones before Rugrats in Paris are good too. I didn’t like the show as much after Rugrats in Paris- but I did like the new characters and I’m glad they were in the season- and All Growed Up and Rugrats Go Wild. Good characters- but the show wasn’t as good after!

Sex and The City 1 & 2

I like both of these movies too… 2 is kind of a guilty pleasure but I kind of like it more than the first movie. One thing I don’t really like about the movies and the spinoff series And Just Like That is that you can only end a show once… and these properties made after the show is done change the ending of the original show. If you like Miranda and Steve… Steve cheats on Miranda in the movie. If you liked Samantha with Smith… they break up in the second movie. It just changes and messes with things a little bit.

So I think that’s one good thing about having a movie in the middle of the series- it doesn’t change the ending of the show at all.

Anyway that is everything… sorry for talking about Rugrats and then Sex and the City… but that’s a thing I did.

Anyway that is it for now… bye!
