Movie Monday: Top 5 Horror Movies- The SCARIEST
Okay so I just watched the movie Talk To Me... and I will have a little review of that and we'll talk about my Top 5 Favorite and scariest hororr movies in here.
Also I'm going to say as much as I love Scream, Saw and Nightmare on Elm Street I want to try to not include franchise movies in here. I might have one on the list or as an honorable mention... but I have reasons for that. These are not going to really be in any order either- these are just 5 of my favorite hororr movies.
5) Talk To Me
Okay- so this is probably closer to #1 on my list but I just watched this today and I've already mentioned it... so of corse this is going to be what I want to talk about this first.
This was just such a clever movie. My cousin described it as "the smartest movie" she's ever seen and I would honestly agree. I think I need to watch it a second time because... there are things I think you'll notice the second time that you won't notice the first time. I went into it knowing absolutely nothing about it- other than there's a hand... and that's probably how you should go into it. Overall I loved that... the movie doesn't explain everything but it still isn't hard to follow or pretentious or anything. This is really good.
4) The Barbarian
This is another one that you should go into not really knowing much about. It's probably easy now that it's been out a while to know... this movie is kind of 2 movies in one. And it kind of makes you feel uneasy from the beginning... and then when the real hororr starts you're already scared from what you think is going to happen that it makes it twice as scary. It's a fun horror movie. I saw this one in theaters also- and it was a really good movie to see in theaters. I haven't seen it since then and I probably should.
3) Nope
I've only seen 2 of the Jordan Peele Movies in Theaters and they could both be on this list because they're both really scary... but the pacing of Nope in particular made it a little bit scarier to me... and a more interesting movie overall so I'm going to say Nope. Nope also blends a lot of different hororr genres in a really interesting way. There's the creature itself- which is kind of Monster Movie and Sci Fi, plus there's a lot of gore with the Gordy part of it. It's just a clever combination of horror and a good movie overall. It's also so funny in the first part that when a lot of the horror starts it makes it so much scarier.
Comedy in Horror Movies
The Barbarian also has a lot of humor in it that makes it... but I'm not sure that is what makes the movie scarier to me. I think the twists in Barbarian are what make it scarier since each twist has you feeling more uncomfortable. I think movies like Nope and M3gan that blend hororr and comedy to make the movies scarier are really really clever and it becomes scarier.
The rest of these movies really don't have comedy in them at all. Talk to me didnt, and the next two movies I mention don't either... but they kind of use family drama and absurdity to make the movie a little bit scarier.
2) Hereditary
This movie really leans into the absurdity aspect... but there's also a lot of drama and gore. This has an ending I wasn't really expecting at all that is almost out of left field- but not in a way that negates the movie at all. The story Ari Aster was trying to tell with this movie is a very interesting family drama and overall it just works so well. I feel like I was slightly less scared of this movie because my boyfriend had seen the movie before I had... when he saw it he thought it was really scary. Still a good movie and it disturbs a lot of people.
1)The Babadook
Okay so if there's one movie on this list I can say scared me the most- it's probably The Babadook. Talk to me is also up there and is probably my favorite on the list... but I really like this movie. It just kind of kept scaring me and it kept going! There wasn't like a slow moment really with it. I don't think the ending is the scariest on this list- this and Nope probably have the closest thing to a happy ending on this list... but this one just really had me on the edge of my seat!
That being said: Talk to me is probably my favorite: and I was also in suspense the whole movie too. While I was watching this my mom called my uncle- and my cousin that I know has seen this movie answered and my boyfriend and I were just screaming "BLOW OUT THE CANDLE" and my boyfriend was like "we should ask your mom to give us the phone so we can talk about this with your cousin." So... that was really funny too. I just texted her after to let her know.
Honorable Mention: Paranormal Activity
So I have to say- this movie didn't age very well- I don't even know if I could sit through it now let alone be scared by it... but when I saw it in theaters- this was a really scary movie and I loved it. I saw it for my birthday- it was one of the first R Rated movies I was allowed to see in theaters- I had to sneak a few of my younger friends in... but it was scary and a really fun movie to see in theaters with friends.
These are some fun movie suggestions if you're looking for Something to watch for Halloween. Most of them are streaming too- Which is great!
Bye!
