Movie Monday: The Substance should win Best Picture!

I think this one is a perfect - I’m going to get that out of the way now. If I were on the academy this would be what I would vote for for best picture and I would LOVE to see this win.

So first off… the movie doesn’t even open with the characters- we see Elisabeth Sparkle’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and over time it gets damaged over time. People were excited about it at first but… it loses its sparkle pretty quickly.

And we keep just seeing little things that Elisabeth gets insecure about. She’s getting replaced in her exercise tape job… and she’s just feeling insecure. She’s still beautiful and she’s still really talented- but people aren’t respecting her because she’s an older woman and that’s making her insecure… so she finds out she’d be a good candidate for The Substance which is this thing she can take that will clone her into a “better version of you.”

The way they show her taking the substance and Sue emerging from Elisabeth is really cool… and it’s just really great.

I feel like this movie will win Demi Moore the Oscar and she definitely deserves it… but the acting wasn’t the only good thing about this movie. It looked so good that when I went to bed that night my dream looked like the world of The Substance… and it wasn’t even related to the dream at all it just looked so good. And the body horror in this movie was so good and it really drove h Th e message of this movie even further… it was so good.

Plus this made me feel seen as a woman for several reasons. There were so many messages the movie was trying to convey about a lot of different things and… it just really really got the frustrations of being a woman… it’s just really good.

There are also a lot of really fun bizarre moments in the movie too- that are funny but they aren’t bad funny. It’s a perfect movie… I have nothing else to say other than watch this own it and… yeah it’s good.

Gets feelings of genre- 5

This is so good! I loved the use of the psychological thriller angle, but there were a lot of sci fi elements and this is one of the best body horror movies of all time… if not the best.

Cast- 5

Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley were absolutely perfect and all the other parts of this movie were great too. Dennis Quaid played such a creep and I told my boyfriend “ohhh I feel like Michael Shannon would have been good for this part” but Dennis Quaid was SOOOO GOOD.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

How did it look- 5

This looked so good that this is kind of what my dreams look like now… it’s weird but it’s a very simple world to dream of… even if your dream has nothing to do with the movie itself.

Press- 5

Everything I’ve seen of this movie is great. Plus a lot of it is just people talking about how much they love the movie which is smart.

Music- 5

The music really added a lot to this movie… it was amazing.

Character development/ Writing- 5

Yeah… we totally see how Taking the Substance changes Elisabeth and Sue.

Total: 30 out of 30
