Movie Monday: The 40 Horror Movies Meme -ranking the ones I’ve seen
You guys have seen this meme going around right? I've seen over half of these movies- or at least one or more from the franchise- I'm going to rank what I've seen. Also yes- I looked up all 40 movies because I have OCD and too much time lol.
Also as you might be able to tell... not all of these are really horror movies. Beetlejuice and The Addams family are on here and... those aren't horror movies but those are some of my favorite spooky movies so- don't be surprised at my top 10! These are also all great movies- so if your favorite is at the bottom... these are all really great movies but if I'm going to rank them and I love ranking things... I'm going to obviously have some I like more than others.
22) The Exorcist
Okay... I know this is a classic but I just don't like exorcism movies. I think I like exorcism books- but exorcism movies aren't really my thing. My sister went to Fordham when this was filmed and I was always so scared of this movies existence and when I finally watched it- it just wasn't all that scary to me. The concept still totally frightens me but the movie itself wasn't my favorite.
21) The Blair Witch Project
I think I want to revisit this movie because I only saw it once and it was illegally and on my computer and I'm not sure I got the full effect of it. I also think this was probably so scary at the time but it's not that scary by todays standards and I don't think I appreciated that the first time I watched it... so if I watch the rest of these movies- which I might and re-rank this next year- which I might- I might rewatch this and I could see it being higher.
20) The Ring
This is a great movie... I just can't remember either movie that well and I don't think it can compare with some of the movies on this list.
19) The Sixth Sense
This was probably the first horror movie I ever watched. It's not really that much of a horror movie though- and I need to rewatch this one too cause I don't really remember it too well.
18) Rocky Horror Picture Show
This is too low on this list... I think it's just one of those movies I can't watch more than once a year at most... but it is a movie I could watch every year I think so... it should be high on the list... but it's just low. I need to watch this again.
I did actually watch Shock Treatment this summer and it was a little boring comparatively but I still liked it. Shock Treatment is a Rocky Hororr sequel that is not well loved and has none of the original cast. Barry Humphries was in this movie and I watched this the day before he passed away. Just thought I'd mention that.
17) Evil Dead
I don't think I actually watched the first Evil Dead... I think I watched 2,3 and Rise... or maybe I watched 2 and then 1 and rise... I might have watched 1-3... it's hard to tell the original movies of the Evil Dead series apart and it's a good movie but SO MUCH happens in the movie. It's a really fun, good movie but I can't point out any specific scenes to tell you about.
16) Gremlins
I love Gremlins. This is a Christmas movie- not a Halloween movie and that's kind of great. I feel like this doesn't hold up as well and that makes me a little sad. I feel like people are forgetting about this one or not showing it to their kids and... it's a bit sad. I just watched it a few years ago for the first time... and I loved it! I feel like it could be dated but it was still really great.
15) Poltiergeist
I think this was the first hororr movie a lot of my friends in elementary school saw- but it was a little too scary for me at the time... but it's a good first horror movie I would say. I like this movie a lot and would watch it maybe every few years. There are a few moments in this movie that are kind of odd and cringey and badly written... it stands out the most on this list. It's not a bad movie at all- but if you see it it sticks out like a sore thumb.
14) Child's Play
I've only seen the first movie in this series- but I was pleasantly surprised by it. I don't really think Chucky is that scary as a character. Idk if I'll like the rest of the series a lot- but this was a fun movie and it was suspenseful.
13) It
So I haven't seen both of the Bill Skarsgard It movies- I've only seen the first one- but I did see both of the Tim Curry movies... and I think those were Tv movies actually... and it's quite possibly the best TV Movie of all time. Both parts of this were great. I don't think the movies are all that scary- but they're fun and iconic. Bill Skarsgard and Tim Curry do a great job.
12) Friday the 13th
So I've only watched the first two movies and Freddy vs Jason and I like these but I don't love them the way I do the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Jason isn't the most interesting villain- I still like him though.
11) Hellraiser
I feel like if you like Labryrith but you want a horror movie about Sex- you should watch Hellraiser. It's a great movie and Pinhead is just iconic. I've only seen the first movie in this series but it's great.
10) Ghostbusters
Okay top 10 now! I think I've actually seen all of the ghostbusters movies and I like them all. Ghostbusters 2 might be the worst of the bunch- but I like what they're doing with the new series.
9) Halloween
I need to watch all of these movies- but I really like Halloween. Even Halloween Ends was so bizarre and kind of awful that it was almost brilliant in its out of left-fieldedness.
8) Frankenstein
I just saw this recently too! I really loved this movie- I'm excited that there's rumors of Del Toro directing Frankenstein because he's definitely one of the best hororr directors out there and... this is still an exciting movie to watch.
7) Shaun of The Dead
This is one of the first horror movies I watched too I think... definitely one of the first on this list- and it's not really a horror movie... it's really silly and I thought it sounded awful but it's one of those movies I will sit down and watch whenever I see it on.
6) Nightmare on Elm Street
Okay... this is one of my favorite film series. Freddy is one of the best characters. All of these movies are pretty good and they're all really different- so it's good to watch all of them.
5) Silence of The Lambs
The performances in this movie are incredible. This is also just one of the most entertaining movies of all time I think. It's really just a great movie. Some parts may be offensive by todays standards... but you're not watching it for Buffalo Bill. You watch this for Sir Anthony Hopkins and Jodi Foster. They have great chemistry and this is just overall a great movie.
4) The Addams Family
Addams family values is one of my favorite movies of all time... so this is high on the list. If I liked the first movie more It might be higher... but the second movie is just so good it overshadows it. I also love Wednesday and I'd probably like the original series a lot too- even though The Munsters might be better.
3) Scream
I love the scream movies- this could easily be my number 1 or number 2 on this list but since I ranked Ghostface higher than Jigsaw- I'm going to rank Saw the series higher than Scream. Anyway Scream- especially the first one is amazing. I also really like the direction the new movies are going in as well.
I love Matthew Lillard and... he's amazing in the first movie.
2) Saw
Okay... this is a bold statement that I am ranking Saw as the highest actual Horror Movie on this list with several classic movies... but I actually feel like these movies are the perfect horror movie for me personally. I love slashers, but this is also kind of a puzzle movie and I love puzzles. All of these movies have a crazy twist too and I love the twists in these movies because they're INSANE. The drama in these movies are also very soap opera like and I love soap operas. I don't really watch many soaps anymore- so this just kind of awakens that part of me that's a little girl that absolutely loves Soap Operas... but I also love Horor Movies.
Also can we appreciate Tobin Bell. He's the best part of these movies for sure.
1)Beetlejuice.
Of corse Beetlejuice is number 1 on this list. This is another all time favorite movie of mine... and one I can watch all the time. I just watched it yesterday and I loved it. I saw Beetlejuice the Musical and I loved it... I think this is one of the funniest and best movies.
Bye!
