Movie Monday: Silver Lining's Playbook
I watched this movie... kind of a while ago at the time I'm writing this. I also watched it incredibly late at night... so it might be a little blurry but... overall I really liked it. I know Jennifer Lawrence won the Oscar for this movie... I don't think she deserved it as much as Bradley Cooper did... I feel like he carries the movie and Jennifer Lawrence was great... but Bradley Cooper's the reason to watch the movie for me.
So this movie shows 2 different people going through different mental illnesses and grieving different losses. Pat (Bradley Cooper) just got released from a Mental Institution after causing a scene at the school his wife (and him I think?) worked at (can't remember what he did and don't want to spoil it) because he saw her cheating on him with the history teacher. He has bipolar disorder and even though he and his wife clearly aren't together anymore- he still refers to himself as married. He still loves his wife, he's trying to win her back and then he meets Jennifer Lawrence...
Jennifer Lawrence plays Tiffany who was recently widowed and was fired for sleeping with everyone that she worked with. She's the sister of one of Pat's married friends that he and his wife used to hang out with and now they're both kind of trying to help the other move on. Tiffany does competitive dancing as a hobby- and she needs a partner... which somehow Pat agrees to in order for Tiffany to give a note to his ex wife.
Robert DeNiro's character in this is also... kind of underrated. If you remember when I reviewed Jackie Brown- DeNiro was in that but they really didn't give him much to work with and he had a rather bland character. This character kind of makes the movie and all the characters better in my opinion. He's a bookkeeper that has been betting on the Eagles and the Eagles keep losing and of corse he blames Pat and Tiffany... and Tiffany puts him in his place with the argument... and that's kind of the best scene. And then he bets on Pat and Tiffany getting a certain score in the dance competition and it's really good.
The relationship in the movie feels so natural. They start out as friends and they just kind of fall in love because they're sort of perfect for each other. That is one of the best parts of the movie... I also feel like you'll appreciate the movie if you live on the East Coast.... it felt really relatable with the football rivalries and everything like that.
Overall- this was just a fun movie. It is an Oscar Nominated and winning movie and... I've been kind of into watching some of those super acclaimed movies lately so this was one I needed to see... and it was worth it. Worth the hype for sure- it's really good!
Alright- hope you guys like this review! Next week's review will be like a triple review with some Disney Plus movies that have a more winter theme to two of them at least.
Bye!
