Movie Monday: Robin Williams Movies Roundup
I've been watching a lot of Robin Williams movies over the last few months really- kind of all through the year... and I really enjoy them... but I've noticed something of a phenomenon with them and I need to explain!
The Robin Williams Switcharoo
Pretty much any Robin Williams movie you're going to see is going to be funny. It's a give in basically- he's very funny... but Robin also has Range and that range leads to some misleading trailers. Bicentennial Man, Man of The Year, Flubber, Death To Smoochy... all these movies are kind of sad- but the trailer puts all the funniest lines in them and because it's a Robin Williams movie and he's just really really funny... and a lot of times when you actually see the movie it's not as funny or good as it was in the trailer. My boyfriend coined the term "the Robin Williams Switcharoo" cause yeah... that's the only way to describe it and I haven't really seen this happen with another actor... so this is specific to Robin Williams.
One Hour Photo
One Hour Photo I watched last year and it was one of the best thrillers I've ever seen. It was just so creepy and Robin Williams did an awesome job playing this man that worked at a One Hour Photo Booth and he became obsessed with this family that went in there. So he was playing 2 different roles kind of- One, the likable sales associate and Two the sinister loner obsessed with a family that he doesn't have. And he played them both with depth. He did an awesome job with both roles! Like you felt bad for this man but you were also afraid of him and it was just terrifying.
The director of this movie also did an amazing job. This captures the late 90's- Early 2000's perfectly. I would watch this movie again. It was great!
Bicentennial Man
This is not as great of a movie because it fell victim from The Robin Williams Switcharoo. The trailers made it look like a really funny family friendly movie about an Android that basically became human because this family loves him so much... but it's a lot heavier than that. I would say this captures grief really well- but it feels very long and there's a long stretch of time where basically nothing happens. If it was a little funnier I would have liked it more as a kid- it's a little boring to watch as an adult but... it's still pretty enjoyable. I think it was better now that I knew what to expect with it. Still felt very weird at parts and you couldn't tell where they were going with the movie... but... it's good.
Hook
This one's a classic. Not my favorite Peter Pan I don't think. But I do still really like the movie. Uhhh I don't have a whole lot to say about this one- but it's so so good.
Death To Smoochy
This one wasn't that funny either- and he wasn't even in it that much... his character was still really good. I enjoyed the movie for some reason- but I can see why people didn't like it. I don't know if I'd watch it again- but Robin Williams was good. It was nice!
Man of The Year
Again- not as funny as the trailer looked... but I did still really like the movie! I liked it more watching it now than when I was a kid- this was more like a political thriller almost and it was pretty funny the closer it got till the end. It was a fun movie to watch again- not the best movie ever but... it was interesting.
And that is every Robin Williams movie I've seen recently! I liked them all and I'll do a part 2 to this blog!
Bye!
