Movie Monday: Red One Underrated Christmas Gem +New Grading System!

Alright I love this movie and I will be watching it every Christmas and I feel like this movie was underhyped and is currently being under appreciated at the box office right now… let’s talk about the best and ONLY family friendly Christmas movie that’s been released worldwide in YEARS.

So this is an action movie that centers around Santa Clause getting kidnapped from The North Pole… and there’s a lot about this movie that isn’t perfect- but there’s a lot that I love about the movie.

I really loved JK Simmons as Santa and Bonnie Hunt as Mrs. Clause- but I would have loved a little bit more of a North Pole scene in the beginning. I love

Seeing how different movie Santa’s workshop works and how the different north poles are. This movie didn’t do that really- but it did have looks at things other movies don’t… like the Krampus scene and they have a special travel portal through toy stores… it’s also really cool to see.

I also think the beginning scene could have foreshadowed the villain a little bit better. I would have liked to see her in the crowd at the mall acting mean instead of the YouTuber that they showed cutting the line. Maybe she was and I didn’t notice it… but I wished they would have highlighted her a bit more because she was a really good villain.

One thing everyone seemed to LOVE in the audience I saw this with was Krampus. The krampus scene was really great- and they kept bringing him back! The cgi for this scene and others were also really good and the villain looked Really good.

I also really liked all the main characters and how they interacted together. Everyone had great chemistry and overall it was a great cast. The beginning scenes with JK Simmons and The Rock, then most of the movie with Chris Evans and the Rock and later on with the son of Chris Evans. Everyone played off each other really well and the cast was just perfect.

I got a movie journal from Amazon recently- it’s called 1000 movies watched- your 100% visual movie journal and it gives you a little place to put the poster, a rating mark and it gives you 5 circles to customize and rate however you want. Plus you can put the date and where you watched it!

I gave it 3 and a half out of 5 stars… it’s not the best movie of all time- but I really enjoyed it and basically if it’s a Christmas movie with Santa in it… it gets half a star for me already… I like Santa movies lol.

Now the circles- I added an extra one because I wanted to include an extra thing and I just put a number 1-5 based on how much I liked it… so I’ll include that in my review!

Gives the feelings for Genre - 5

Since I started off with a Christmas movie- I thought it was important to have this. Plus this works for any genre of movie… This really put me in the Christmas spirit so it got a 5! I’m so happy I got to go to the theater and see a nice Christmas movie!

Cast- 5

I feel like if JK Simmons is in something… it gets 2 stars automatically lol 😂 I love JK Simmons- especially as Santa. He also voiced Santa in Klaus. I also thought Chris Evans was great, the rock is always great… there was some great voice acting. And Kiernan Shipka was great as Gryla the witch. I also LOVE Bonnie Hunt- she’s an underrated but fantastic actress and I loved seeing her in this.

How did it look- 4

I gave this a 4. I thought the CGI was great, the movie overall looked great- but there were parts where it felt darker than it had to be. Still a solid 4… could be 4 1/2 but… I’m gonna stick with 4 for that.

Press- 3

This is sort of my bonus category- but I put it before the circle I added as a bonus… but as you might be able to tell from the Wicked post I did about all the Wicked Merch… press is important to me. I would have liked to have seen more of this one. I’d take an ornament of Duane The Rock Johnson or wear a JK Simmons Santa shirt.

Music-2

I don’t remember any of the music or score for this movie… I think there were songs I liked in it and maybe at the end but it wasn’t memorable- so it gets a 2.

Character Development/ Writing 4 and 1/2

Okay I thought this was a really fun concept and I loved all the characters and it was a pretty perfect action movie with some Christmas magic sprinkled in. I loved it! The beginning could have been better so I knocked half a point off.

Overall rating: 23 and 1/2 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️ and a half stars! Shannon Approved!!!

You guys should see this before Christmas! Take your family or go for a girls night or guys night… or a date night!
