Movie Monday: Pulp Fiction
Okay... here's a MOVIE. I had seen the first clip of this in my film class but I had never watched the full thing... I honestly wish I had done my paper in film class about this movie because... there's a lot. The Film Nerd English Major part of me wants to do a huge deep dive into this movie... I might watch it more and really analyze this in future posts... but for now... it's just a review and maybe some connections and theories.
So the movie is told in a non linear way... which kind of makes it amazing... it also has the most intense and uncomfortable scene I think I've ever seen in a movie... which we will get to... ohhh man. This is a pretty good and memorable movie.
In my review of Reservoir Dogs I kind of mentioned the interesting movie connections in this... Big Kahuna Burger and Vic and Vincent Vega being brothers... so that's about it.
It also has Steve Buschemi playing a waiter- which is funny because he talks about how he used to work a minimum wage job and how he didn't tip in Pulp Fiction. Aspen read that this movie took place before Reservoir Dogs and that this was Mr. Pink in his minimum wage job before the events of Reservoir Dogs... it could also be him laying low after Reservoir Dogs... I'm not sure.
Alright... so this is almost like a bunch of mini movies stitched together from an overall plot and characters. It starts out at a diner with a robbery that we don't see again until the end of the movie. We also get Vincent and Jules talking about foot massages and then go into an apartment to get "The case" for Marsellus- then we get Vincent taking out Marsellus's wife Mia... then we get the Gold Watch thing... then back to Vincent and Jules... there's a lot.
The pacing of this movie is really good... like even in segments that take forever and are kind of rambly...You can kind of see that it builds up to something and it adds details that are important for the characters. It's just good. I think my favorite part of the story is the Bruce Willis part because... that's just when things get totally crazy and I just really really like it. But there are a lot of really rambly things that happen... but it just kind of adds to Bruce Willis's character and he's just so so good in this movie.
Another great scene in this movie is when Vincent has to give Mia the adrenaline shot... Ohhh man... this scene is so so tense... and it's weird because it's something that's going to revive Mia who basically overdosed... but ugh it's just so so hard to watch. My boyfriend said this was probably the most intense scene of any Tarantino movie and I said "Yeah... I'm having a hard time not looking away." And Aspen was having a hard time with it too. It was just a really great scene that was totally brutal.
I think that's everything I want to say about the movie... I think it's my third favorite movie that I've seen from Tarantino so far. My boyfriend thought it was overrated the first time he watched it... but I think he liked it more this time. I ordered the blu ray and I plan on watching it again... probably soon.
Bye!
