Movie Monday: Phantasm 2 vs Hellraiser 2

Okay so I watched both of these on the same day this weekend... and I have some thoughts.

Are these two movies you can really compare? Kind of- they were both made around the same time and the effects are similar... so it made sense to watch on the same day. The first movie in each of these is better than the second one- but both of these movies are entertaining and give us a little more insight into the world of the horror movie.

Phantasm 2 was almost so bad it's good. The two leads decide to make super weapons to go after the villain- and it's kind of comical. Reg from the first movie puts two shotguns together and Billy (I think his name is) makes some sort of flame thrower weapon and it's pretty funny. There are 2 girl characters in the movie and there is a twist with one of them... but it was a fun twist.

Overall Phantasm 2 wasn't as good as the first movie but it was still pretty good.

Hellraiser 2 on the other hand... I didn't like. I don't love the horror trope of having a nonverbal character and... they just kind of have her there to be a nonverbal character that's really good at puzzles. They didn't reallly need another child character in the movie... it did feel a little unnecessary and it kind of made me not like the movie.

A lot of the other parts of the movie were too similar to the first movie... and it just wasn't as fun.

Neither of these movies are super memorable... so I'm not going into that much detail on it- but they were both okay. Phantasm 2 I still liked. Hellraiser 2 I can say I I didn't really like... but I'd still watch more of the series.
