Movie Monday: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Alright the last of the Tarantino movies... well kind of. I have 2 that are in the same universe and are written by Tarantino that I will review next week- but right now- this is everything that he's directed.
So this movie... is good and it's different. It was the first movie of these to not be produced by Harvey Weinstein... and I feel like that maybe made a difference. There was a new editor for this movie- but the editor for his movies up to Inglorious Bastards passed away and his movies after that are all a little different- like maybe this editor agrees a little bit too much with Tarantino so it doesn't have the same feel... but this one kind of felt like the others before it.
Part of me wants to say this movie does not have much of a plot- but I also feel like this has the strongest plot of any of the Tarantino Movies oddly enough. The story is told kind of in a laid back manner... It seems like little vignettes that kind of come together at the end- and if you know even a little bit about the Manson Family- you can kind of get how it comes together a little more but... it's still kind of nice to watch how it gets there. But there's also a strong plot about the careers of Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth. Rick is kind of a has been trying to get work in new movies and Cliff is someone that has a hard time getting hired without the help of Rick. Cliff also drives Rick everywhere, because he got his license suspended.
And the relationship between Cliff and Rick is what carries the movie. It's so good and... you just feel for them even though they might be flawed characters... they're just people you kind of root for even if they aren't good people.
Also dammit I'll say it... That Leonardo DiCaprio guy is a good actor. I think he's going places. I've seen several Leonardo Dicaprio movies and I've liked all of them... so I don't know why it took me this long to realize he's a great actor but... He's a pretty great actor. Brad Pitt is not bad either! I haven't really seen him in as many movies... but he's really good!
Also the actress that is the little girl in the movie Rick is in is really good. I loved her as Anna Kat in American Housewife- I think she's really good too. I thought she kind of made the movie and added some dimension to Rick Dalton's character. The two played REALLY well off of each other.
The story ends really happily too... despite it being about the Manson family partially. It doesn't end the same as things did in real life without spoiling it too much. I thought that kind of made the movie better and... it was just an interesting thought.
Overall this was a great buddy movie and I was really impressed with it! It was a fun and easy watch!
Bye!
