Movie Monday: Nightmare Alley
Alright so this movie was the one Oscar movie where I was like “ooo I really gotta see that!” And… yeah! I did! I really like Guillermo del Toro and I thought this movie looked really good and it was overall a pretty great movie. I didn’t totally love it that much… but let’s talk a little bit about it.
So this movie kind of starts out as a slice of life movie about a guy working at a Circus and then Cate Blanchett joins the movie and it kind of turns into a movie about Bradley Cooper’s character trying to scam people.
I kind of liked seeing Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett in more sinister roles. I feel like they don’t get cast as the villain that often and I’ve always liked Bradley Cooper as an actor- but after watching Silver Linings Playbook I think I have a little bit more respect for him. I just think he’s always so entertaining to watch and I think he kind of deserves more credit and he’s often outshined by his costars.
Cate Blanchett also did a fantastic job. The movie changed when she joins the movie… and it’s awesome! Her character at the end was so wicked and ruthless that… it’s pretty amazing and it’s really different than the rest of the movie.
The ending of the movie was a bit predictable and overall the pacing wasn’t the best… and it kind of isn’t great that it did feel like 2 disconnected movies… I like it personally but I could see why people don’t like that as much.
So overall- if you like Del Toro, watch the movie. Watch the movie anyway- it isn’t the best or the most memorable- I watched this probably a month or so ago and I don’t remember it that well now… but its still worth watching and I’d recommend it.
Bye! -Shannon
