Movie Monday: Movie Trivia

Okay so today I thought I’d do something a little different and give some movie trivia. This was inspired by justbri_always on TikTok partially. She does great short videos on pop culture and her favorite movies and tv shows and one of her videos made me look up a bit of trivia from IMDB- so I thought I’d include some fun trivia from some of my favorite movies. Also spoilers! So be careful if you haven’t seen every movie. Most of these are several years old.

So this is NOT fun trivia- but Bri’s video was about actors that got hurt doing movies that they filmed and it reminded me of a fact I had heard about Harold and Kumar go To White Castle. So it’s been a while since I’ve seen the movie, but there’s a scene where Kumar falls out of a vent or something and they use walnut powder to get the texture of the dust from him falling. Kal Penn- who plays Kumar is allergic to nuts- so they had to stop production for the day while Penn went to the hospital. The crew did receive a memo about his peanut allergy but still used the powder. They changed it to chocolate powder after that.

So I think Chris Tucker is an underrated actor because he’s mostly known for the Rush Hour movies and I haven’t seen him in a lot since then and when I saw him in Silver Lining’s Playbook I was like “ohhh wow he’s actually pretty good!” As it turns out Silver Linings Playbook- which was released in 2012- was the first movie he had been in that wasn’t a Rush Hour movie since he was in Jackie Brown in 1997… a movie that I saw around the same time and also liked Chris Tucker in.

Speaking of Jackie Brown… this is probably my favorite Quentin Tarantino movie- definitely underrated in my opinion. It has the lowest body count of any of his movies- only 3 (or 4?) people die in the movie… but another interesting piece of trivia is that Robert De Niro is the only actor to have an on screen (spicy) love scene with an aunt and her niece. In this movie he has a scene with Bridget Fonda and in the 1990 movie Stanley and Iris he has a scene with Jane Fonda.

I just saw The People’s Joker and during the director Q&A I was at at IFC center- Vera Drew said that she had Kane Distler who plays Mister J in the movie record dialogue for a “pillow talk” type of scene that was animated while he was in bed. Which I thought was really nice. It felt very genuine.

I’m just looking up trivia on IMDB somewhat randomly and writing down what I find interesting… and I looked up Joker because it was on my “for you” page probably since I just looked up The People’s Joker to find out the actor that played Mister J. Anyway- the scene where Arthur gets into the fridge in Joker was improvised… and that’s awesome. That scene haunts me to this day… and I don’t even LOVE Joker as much as I did the first time I saw it.

Also in Joker I didn’t see this, or I just didn’t remember this but there’s a freeze frame shot that shows that Arthur’s mom was lobotomized.

I love the movie Whiplash… Jk Simmons and Miles

Teller did an amazing job in the movie and according to IMDB Jk Simmons one 47 awards for his role as Fletcher and now I need to know what’s the highest amount of awards one actor has received for one role…

I can’t find an actual answer to this question! But according to this Reddit thread Christoph Waltz has won 61 awards for his role in Inglorious Bastards- so I guess JK Simmons isn’t the most awarded actor for a single role.

In The Menu John Lenguizamo’s character is based off of a bad experience he had working with Stephen Segal. His character is shown in the movie to be named George Diaz (at least I think he’s shown? That’s his official name) but I think he’s credited as “Movie Star” because secretly (or not so secretly) he’s playing Stephen Segal. He even mentions a movie where he’s a chef- which could be a reference to a Segal movie.

And last but not least- while The Hangover was filming Ken Jeong’s wife was battling breast cancer and it was hard for him to be away from his family during the time. Bradley Cooper drove Ken back to LA so that he could be with his family and he invited Ken and his family to spend the holidays with Bradley Cooler and his family- and Ken said it really helped him get through this time. His wife is now cancer free.

So that is all the movie trivia… I looked most of this up on IMDB- some of it was stuff I knew… some was just me looking up some movies I liked and then making connections between the movies and looking other stuff up. I learned a lot and I definitely want to do this again… maybe I’ll categorize my movies a little bit better.

Bye!
