Movie Monday: Movie Picks if you love Hadestown

Alright- so I'm not a huge expert on the mythology story behind Hadestown- but I'm going to recommend you some movies that I might watch again now after seeing Hadestown.

What Dreams May Come (1998)

This is a Robin Williams movie and it is a retelling of Orpheus and Euridicye apparently... which makes sense- because I forget exactly what happens- but basically Robin Williams goes to hell to save his wife? And I think his kids also go with him. This is a beautiful movie but it's not my favorite plot wise. My mom and my sister saw it and my mom HATED it and I agree with her to an extent... it's hard to watch but I didn't think it was that bad. I would give it another chance- but it's not the happiest movie and I already know I don't love it.

Chicago (2002)

So this has nothing to do with Hades and Euridicye but... it is a musical and the music styling is also jazzy. The Hades in the production I saw played Billy Flint in Chicago... and I think that's fitting. The songs are a similar tone and of all the musicals I've seen- this is the one that I would say is similar. In style and tone a bit.

Romeo+ Juliet (1996)

So this is my favorite tragic love movie I think. It would be interesting to see a Baz Luhrman Hadestown movie... but anyway this is a good retelling of a tragedy and although it is not a musical it does have a good soundtrack.

Hercules (1997)

I would say if you have kids... this isn't the show for them but... you know if you have to go with your kids or if your kids are interested in this production... Hercules is a good way to teach them mythology. The fates and the muses are in both the play and the movie, Hermes is in both the play and the movie, and of corse Hades is. Sometimes also you want something to refresh yourself on mythology but you don't want to watch something heavy... this is the movie for that. Also Hermes from my production played in Hercules- I'm not sure if it's the movie or the musical... but yeah.

Percy Jackson and the Olypians (2010)

You know I just think this movie needs another chance before the new series comes out. The new series sounds better- but this movie was okay. Logan Lerman is great and... I would love to see him in the new series.

I'm too tired to write any more... but hopefully you take these movies as a little on the nose... but they are still suggestions!

Bye!

-Shannon
