Movie Monday: Movie News and Trailer Reviews April 2023

Okay- a bunch of movie trailers came out today and there's so much movie news that I just learned about today so let's get into it!

First- lets do the trailer reviews.

Elemental

So this is the newest Pixar movie that... no one is hopeful about... and I can kind of see it. I love Pixar but lately- they've had some duds. I loved Soul, I really liked Onward, but the Buzz Lightyear movie could have been better. I think they're just kind of going through a slump right now- and Disney Animated movies kind of are too.... and Disney Live Action movies are just remakes of their animated movies... so it's just all kind of blah right now.

Elemental at least looks kind of funny. I didn't really look that closely into it... I just think Pixar is trying to cater to the Pixar Theory fans... but maybe this story just fits in well with what they have already.Either way the concept seems a little like it's been done before. Not terrible looking just... reminds me of other cartoons I've seen growing up.

Across The Spiderverse: Part 1

Okay so this movie is probably my most anticipated of the year... I loved the first Spiderverse movie and this one looks just as good. I watched an in depth breakdown and it might have been too in depth where it felt a bit spoiler-y... I was going to include notes on this movie in there- but I think I'll just do a quick reaction. It looks good- I think its going to end on a cliffhanger because it's in 2 movies... but yeah. I think I know who the villains and antagonists are and it just looks like a great movie.

Barbie

Okay this trailer looks great! I think there are going to be a ton of cameos, probably a lot of jokes and it just looks like a vibe. This might be the best girl movie since Legally Blonde or Mean Girls... and I think Boys will like it a lot too!

The plot's still a little vague- but based on the marketing posters and the trailer and the description: I'm thinking Margot Robbie is just a regular Barbie in Barbieland and all the other Barbie's have something special to them. Issa Rae is President Barbie, Dua Lipa is Mermaid Barbie, There's a Barbie with a Pulitzer and... I think that makes our main Barbie feel less special so she goes to the real world and her Ken joins her. I also think the "Kens"also feel left out because all the promos say "Another Ken." And "He's Ken" so... I think this could be another theme that could lead to a sequel called Barbie and Ken or something. I don't know... this is another movie that I think is one of my most anticipated movies. It just looks so good and fun!

News

Ana de Armas is starring in a John Wick spinoff series called Ballerina and we now have a release date for that movie- June 2024 its set for... which is just next year! That's exciting and smart- after John Wick 4 there are so many possibilities for the future of the series that I'm just really looking forward to anything from this franchise.

There are plans for a Shrek 5 released from Illumination- plus a Donkey Spinoff series which I'm excited about. So I want more about Donkey and Dragon and I want to know more about the Dronkeys. I want to know Dragon's backstory because she's kind of a villain and for some reason I want one of the Dronkeys to be the villain in Shrek 5... I'm not sure why. I want the Dronkey to end up being good in the end- but I want more about the Dronkey's. I'm also excited at the fact that this could be animated more similarly to Puss in Boots: The Last Wish- which I loved.

Some Disney Live Action remakes... one I am kind of excited about and one I'm not. Now I don't like the Disney Live Action remakes that much- I would prefer we see more movies like The Princess Diaries or Freaky Friday or something like the DIsney Live Action movies that I grew up with. They're remaking Lilo and Stitch and I think that could be cute. I don't think the images of live action stitch online are real because I think they just cast Lilo- but I think this one could be fun. Moana is also getting a live action movie possibly... and like... shouldn't they wait a few years for that... Moana didn't come out that long ago. I don't want to see Dwayne Johnson as the real Maui.

I also heard that HBO is thinking of doing a tv series of Harry Potter. I am not sure if this is real or not and... part of me is like "YES DO THAT" and part of me is like "That's not an easy thing to do or recreate." I love Harry Potter but unfortunately- JK Rowling has ruined that for me and it's ruined a lot of new kids from wanting to grow up with Harry Potter the way that I grew up with Harry Potter... I might do a whole post on this because I could say a lot about it but... I just don't think this one is going to happen and I don't have much faith in the Wizarding World properties after seeing Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore which is one of the most boring and pointless movies I've ever seen. So yeah. I feel lukewarm about any more Harry Potter things.

I think that is everything that I want to talk about today. I hope you guys like this! I might try to do this once a month or every other month when I have some news to talk about.
