Movie Monday: LOTS OF HORROR MOVIES

Okay so I've been on a horror/ thriller kick lately... what else is new? So today I'll do a round up of all the horror movies I've watched and what I thought about them. I'm not going to go in any order here... but yeah.

Cloverfield

Okay I bought this from Big Lots a few months ago and I wasn't sure how I would like it. I watched the movie Chronicle a while ago too and I didn't think that was as good today as people thought it was back when it was released. I did actually really enjoy Cloverfield though. The monsters were pretty cool. The found footage narrative didn't totally make sense... but I did like the monsters a lot and while the characters weren't great- it was interesting.

Ten Cloverfield Lane

So this is actually 10 Cloverfield Lane- but whenever I type out 10 the blog goes into a list which I don't want. This was wayyy better and probably the second scariest movie on the list. It was interesting that they decided to make this a Cloverfield movie and market it that way because it didn't feel like we were supposed to know this took place in the world of Cloverfield. Seeing John Goodman as this villain that we aren't really sure is a villain was pretty great. The ending kind of maybe fell a little flat- but it was still really suspenseful and enjoyable. Plus the characters in this movie were actually smart! The girl used her real life skills as a fashion designer to help her in this scenario... which was cool. Good acting and just a really great movie overall. I'm glad I own this one!

Haven't seen The Cloverfield Paradox yet- but I probably will even though I haven't heard any good things.

Red Eye

This is a thriller directed by Wes Craven and it's really really good. It kind of starts off as a rom com but then it turns creepy and it takes place mostly on an airplane- which is very exciting and builds the suspense. I think I've talked about this movie a bit before- but yeah. I would buy this movie. I watched it on HBO Maxx but I'd watch it again.

Phantasm

This is one that was recommended to me by a coworker of mine and I was excited to watch it... and it was creepy and cool... honestly one of my favorite horror villains and it has one of the best kills in a horror movie. I really liked it! I'm probably going to watch it again with my boyfriend before continuing with the series.

It's also old school and reminds me of Friday the Thirteenth.

We Are All Going To The World's Fair

I didn't dislike this movie but I'm not sure I could really recommend it as a horror movie. It was interesting to watch- Anna Cobb did an amazing job acting, I think I'd watch something from the director again but there's just a lot of boring things about it... and it didn't really pay off because the end was so open ended. It wasn't bad and I do still talk about it... but I really don't know if I can recommend it.

The Babadook

Last but not least- probably the scariest movie I've ever seen... and one of the best horror movies: The Babadook. I've been wanting to watch this for a while and I think it's great. It does a great job talking about grief and loss while also just being really scary and fun to watch. There are a lot of horror movies that I think have tried to copy this sort of format and I don't think any one of them really succeeded... but this was just very very good and very scary. The only thing is Iit did feel like it was a little bit long. If there was maybe one less scene of the mom being terrible and then like lovebombing her son... it might have been a bit better. But overall great horror movie- just be aware there is a dog in it... and whenever there's a dog in a horror movie... something happens.
