Movie Monday: Longlegs

So I said I was going to review Flight with Denzel this week… but I will get to that another week because it’s spooky season and I just watched a horror movie!

So Longlegs had this great marketing campaign- all Neon movies have great marketing but this one really relied on Nicholas Cage looking absolutely terrifying and in this movie… I didn’t really think he looked that terrifying. He kind of reminded me of the Cat Lady that had all that plastic surgery in the 90s. And he was scary in this movie- but the first thing you see in the movie is a glimpse of his face.

This movie is kind of a horror movie and there may be some supernatural elements at play… but mostly I think it’s a movie about an FBI that is hunting down a serial killer and a young FBI agent that no one really believes in… but she has a mysterious connection to the case that you find out in the movie.

I don’t want to spoil too much cause I do think this movie is good and it does have a twist you wouldn’t really see coming… but I don’t think it’s the best twist in the world and I think I would have cared more

If they had had the twist in the middle of the movie. They have the twist kind of at the end of the movie and I don’t really have enough time to care about it enough for it to be that effective of a twist for me.

I think this is one you definitely have to watch more than once to appreciate all the little details… and I did enjoy it on this watch but it’s not the scariest movie of all time. The acting was great too- Nick Cage really Caged it up- not for enough of the movie but enough that you can still take the movie seriously. I also love Blair Underwood and it was great to see him in something again. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him in anything and he’s a great actor.

I also think this is more of a murder mystery than a horror to me. There are some supernatural elements and I guess we know who Longlegs is from the beginning… but it still seems slightly more like a mystery than a horror movie. I was kind of expecting that and I think a movie can be both… but it was a little bit of a murder mystery instead of a straight up horror movie.

Okay that’s everything I wanted to say!

Bye!

Shannon
