Movie Monday: Howl's Moving Castle
So I've only seen a few Ghibli Movies... and all of them (except Earwig and The Witch) are all pretty good. I think this is my favorite one yet!
I don't even know where to begin with what I like about the movie... it was just a really fun one to watch. It was so sweet overall and it was just a nice, feel good story that I think if you're in a sad mood you can watch this and it'll make you happy. I'd say this is like a more grown up version of Earwig and the Witch... but this was kind of done right- each of the characters had a reason for acting how they did and everything was somewhat explained at the end... whereas Earwig and the Witch had a more abrupt ending that didn't explain everything well enough in my opinion.
The American Voice Actors were also really good. Howl was voiced by Christian Bale, and Calcifer- the fire was Billy Crystal who was just so funny and so sweet in the role that it really felt like it kind of made the movie better. Howl was also a really cool character and we got to see a lot of his backstory which was cool... and Sophie was great too and... I don't really want to give too much of the plot away- even though its an older movie... Sophie gets a spell cast on her at the beginning of the movie and it's just... interesting how that ends in the movie I guess.
The moving Castle itself I think was my favorite part of the movie. It just really felt like a magical place and it looked so cool and I love the way that they animated it. It fit in the movie- but the animation for the castle was a little more advanced and 3 dimensional and it just looks totally great.
Overall this is just a nice movie to watch. There's a really sweet love story and its just really a good one. Again- I don't really want to say too much about it... but it's a really cute movie and just nice to watch.
Bye!
