Marsupial Facts I Just Learned
Okay so for some reason I'm very into animals right now... like I need to go to a zoo or an aquarium in the near future... but I looked up animal videos on Instagram and I don't remember if the first thing I saw was a kangaroo or if I specifically searched for kangaroos... but either way I saw a cool video of a kangaroo.
So basically it looked like you could just peak in the pouch of the kangaroo to look at the fetus of the young joey. Technically it is in a fetal state- but marsupial babies are actually born after a short gestational period and they climb from the mother's... birthing place and go up into the pouch where they continue to live and develop for 9 months before going outside of the pouch and exploring. They just grab onto the fur and they go right in the pouch- they haven't developed eyes yet even- which is crazy.
Now if you like watching animals give birth- there are a lot of videos on this online... but I couldn't find videos of the other marsupials. The process is the same for all marsupials- but I think the distance between where the kangaroo has to climb to is a little longer so I think it's easier to film Kangaroos than Koalas or Wombats. That's just my guess- but I'm not really sure.
Kangaroos also have one of the smallest babies that are actually born because of this- although once they emerge from the pouch they're pretty full in size.
I hope you guys liked learning this from my point of view- I thought it was interesting and I just thought I'd share it!
Bye!
