Madame Web was a Bad Movie Masterpiece!
So for Valentine's Day- Aspen and I decided we had to HAD TO see Madame Web. The trailer didn't look very good, but that's what made us want to see it. We went in not expecting much... but what we got was incredible.
Sooo right from the very start of the movie... IT'S BAD! Like it starts off with acoregnant woman exploring the Amazon and then someone just takes it from her and says "gimme the spider" over and over again and he shoots her and it eventually kills her. A tribe of spider people that use the spiders for their power take her and she gives birth to the baby but they don't save the mother... so she just DIES.
Then we get to see the actual Madame Web and she's a paramedic but she's not much of a people person- and they don't go into that much. She gets a drawing from a little boy and she's just like "What should I do with this." For... no real reason.
Anyway- so aside from all of that... the main thing is that the villain of the movie wants to kill a group of teenage girls- who are all played by women in their mid twenties- because he can see that in the future they are going to kill him. And they don't really explain anything about what these girls powers are or how they get them. They're just three spider girls with powers.
There isn't a lot of super hero action in this movie. If you saw Wonder Woman 1984 and wondered "why isn't she Wonder Woman-ing in this movie" ... this one is a little similar. She is the first spider person we've gotten in the sony Spider Man without Spider Man universe... so it's a little disappointing that she didn't really do any hero things. This was mostly an origin story I guess... but most of the " action" of the movie was Madame Web leaving the 3 girls behind and saying she'd be back and doing her own thing... which didn't really end up doing anything to help them.
The final fight also takes place in a dynamite factory and it's really a funny example of Checkov's Gun. They just mention a dynamite factory at the beginning of the movie and then the end scene is in a dynamite factory. Like that's all the budget they had left and they were just like "hey let's have the end battle in a dynamite factory. Coke just gave us a ton of money to crush someone with a Pepsi sign, so we can have the end battle in a dynamite factory."
I could probably pick apart every line and every scene of this movie... I did not dislike it. I went in knowing it wouldn't be the best and just hoping it wasn't going to be boring... and that's what I got. I can have fun with a bad movie as long as it's not boring or offensive... and this wasn't boring. I had a good time- I applauded at the end of the movie because it deserved it. This movie was really something. I could watch it again and again.
Alright that's everything! I hope you guys like this review. Let me know if you liked it even though it was bad.
Bye!
