Holiday Rom Com Roundup

Okay- so I’ve been watching Christmas movies- and I’ve been trying to watch ones I haven’t seen yet and ones I don’t watch every Christmas which means… this is the Christmas of the Holiday Rom Coms. I think I’d like to do a more in depth review of The Holiday and Love Actually- but I might talk about them a bit in this post too.

Also I started wiring this and it didn’t all save so… this is attempt number 2.

Hot Frosty

What would a holiday rom com roundup be without Hot Frosty. So im not a hallmark movie gal- but my family members that are HATED this movie. My Nana thought this was a dumb movie… I went in with low expectations… and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t like it much in the first 20 minutes and I turned it off- but I still liked it… and I ended up finishing it up a bit more another time and then I just watched the rest… and it was pretty funny. I loved Lacy Chabert, I thought Dustin Milligan was so funny. Plus I love that there was a little Brooklyn Nine Nine reunion between Joe Lo Truligio and Craig Robinson. Plus I loved American Housewife and loved seeing Katy Mixon Greer. Overall cute and funny movie- a little cheesy but I’ll watch it again next year! I could even watch it again this year!

Our Little Secret

I thought this one was really funny. I love Lindsay Lohan and anything she’s in… and I’ve watched this one twice already. Kristin Chenowith and Tim Meadows are also in this movie and it’s really funny but the plots a little complicated for a Christmas rom com… but it’s funny and cute.

There are also a lot of side plots that kind of get resolved- but not 100%. I still liked the movie- it was an easy watch!

Falling For Christmas

This is also with Lindsay Lohan and costars Chord Overstreet from Glee… who I kind of love. I didn’t like this movie as much as Our Little Secret- but I still really liked it. It was a little sadder- but it still had a happy ending and a few funny moments.

Last Christmas

Alright- now to my first theatrically released Rom Com- Emilia Clarke’s Last Christmas. So I had been avoiding this movie because I thought it would be sad- and it is… but it also doesn’t just have Christmas Songs- but a lot of songs by George Michael. I actually really liked this- it’s sort of a modern version of It’s a Wonderful Life with really great music. The ending of the movie… is kind of obvious but I still think it’s nice to see how many little people in your life actually care about you… which this movie really does. The cast was great- it was written by Emma Thompson and directed by Paul Feig. This isn’t a Christmas must watch for me… but I would watch it again and I can see this being a must watch for some people.

Four Christmases

Okay- I saw this movie when it came out and I didn’t love it but I don’t hate it either. And… I sort of liked it! It’s a little cynical and Vince Vaugh’s ad libbing can be a little much sometimes… but it was okay. It does have one thing I hate in Christmas movies that would make me immediately not like a Christmas movie… it ruins Christmas Magic… but other than that it was a good watch. I kind of liked it and I’m not dying to watch h it again… but I might eventually some time.

Also interestingly- Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaugh hated each other while filming this… and I kind of think that gives the movie a better feel. They don’t do a lot of scenes together and their styles are so different that I think it kind of works.

Love Actually

As I’ve mentioned- I’m going to do a full post on this sometime soon. I wrote a full post on it the last time I watched it… and this time I watched it with my boyfriend and I really liked it again. I feel differently about some storylines this time… so I think I might rank them. The last time I watched this my favorite storyline shockingly… was Colin going to America! I thought it was funny and it’s very star studded. This time my favorite story line was Colin Firth’s story… I’ll get into that more in my full post tomorrow maybe… but I really liked the movie and my boyfriend actually kind of did too. I will make him watch it again.

The Holiday

Yeah- I’m going to do a full review on this one too… this time when I watched it I was SO EXCITED to watch it because I wanted to see how much Iris THRIVED in LA. I loved seeing her with Arthur and while I think Miles is a little bit annoying… I still really like this movie. I heard there’s rumors of a sequel and… I hope they make one. I would like to see where the characters are now.

Over all… if I had to rank these from favorite to least favorite…

1️⃣ Love Actually is clearly the best. I have a lot of thoughts on this.

2️⃣ The Holiday- I’m sure there are many people that like this more than Love Actually but there’s a few reasons why I prefer Love Actually… which I will probably get into with my Love Actually post.

3️⃣ Last Christmas- I… think the ending kind of won me over. It had some cheesy parts- like basically the whole plot… but it was nice seeing how much everyone cared about Kate. And how much everyone cared about each other.

4️⃣ Our Little Secret- this one was really funny and I thought Lindsay Lohan did a great job.

5️⃣ Hot Frosty- Very Silly- but it is self aware kind of and there are a lot of funny parts with this one.

6️⃣ Four Christmases- again not my favorite… but I could watch this one again. It was funny and there were some parts where I was really charmed.

7️⃣ Falling For Christmas- honestly I liked this one but I can’t really see myself ever watching it again. Plus I can’t see why this would be in anyone’s yearly rotation of movies. It’s cute but it isn’t the best.

Bye!

-Shannon
