Foodie Tuesday: Frutta Bowls vs. Playa Bowls
Alright- so... these are two of my favorite places for lunch or dinner and 2 places I didn't really think I'd like. I'm not the biggest fan of Fruit- but everyone I know has said these places are really good and when a Frutta Bowl opened nearby... I wanted to try it. And then after I liked that so much I wanted to give Playa Bowls a try too! Btw if you've never heard of either of these- they're these trendy places that have fruit bowls. It has a fruit base like Acai or Pitaya and you can get basically whatever you want inside of them. Usually 2 or 3 fruits and toppings like Peanut Butter, Nutella, Granola, Chocolate Chips, Caramel... there are a lot of options that make it a Superfood but also kind of a dessert.
Frutta Bowl
I've only ever been to one Frutta Bowl location- Aspen has been to two locations though and he said the one near him is not as good as the location near me. The one near me also offers a lot, they have Soups in the fall and winter, Salads, you can get any of their toasts made into a sandwich... they offer quite a lot more than the Frutta Bowls.
Their bowls are a little chunkier than the consistency of Playa Bowls- which I kind of prefer. It makes it feel a little more like you're eating an actual fruit and less like just a dessert. I pretty much always get the same order- the Frutta Bowl which has an Acai base, Strawberries, Kiwi, Pineapple, coconut, Nutella and Peanut Butter... it's so good. I love the combination of Nutella and Peanut Butter Together... and their Acai base is just really good. I've done a make your own bowl, I've tried some of their other bases and I like the Pitaya, as well as the Graviola and Pumpkin bases, but the Acai is still my favorite from here.
I also do really like their toasts. Aspen likes the The G.O.A.T toast or sandwich and I like the Bravacado and the Go Figure.
I've tried their soups before too and they're pretty good. I think I got the butternut squash... it was good.
This is somewhere I go to quite often- order basically the same things and I don't really get tired.
Playa Bowls
I like Playa Bowls a lot too. While I'd say if I had to pick one I'd say Frutta Bowls- there are things I like better about Playa Bowls also.
I really love their Pitaya Base. I prefer their Pitaya base to Frutta Bowls. They also have a Coconut base and you can get them mixed together (you can do that at Frutta Bowl too) And the Pitaya and Coconut both taste really well together. They are a little meltier than the frutta bowls base because they aren't as chunky. It still tastes good... but it's a little bit sweeter than the playa bowls.
I also almost feel like I have more options at Playa Bowls... and there's no real reason why... but there's nothing on the board that's like a regular thing that I order... so I usually just make my own bowl. I think I usually get Strawberry, Coconut, Nutella, Peanut Butter... maybe another fruit too but I forget right now and I don't have a menu in front of me. But yeah... you need peanut butter and Nutella.
I've had weird service at some Playa Bowl locations... I don't necessarily think that's anything terrible... everyone was incredibly friendly and everything it's just a few little things that were off. I do have to say... there was one I went to that they take your debit or credit card when you're paying... and they forgot to give it back... and I forgot to look for it afterwards and I went to pay for something at the movie and I realized I didn't have money... and it was bad. Luckily they were still open after the movie and I was able to get it back... but there was another card that they almost gave me by mistake... so luckily I got it back... but I mobile ordered the next time I went to that location... and that's kind of my recommendation for places that take your card - always check that you have it after or somehow pay with your phone or something when you go. That's just my suggestion.
So overall I love Frutta Bowls and Playa Bowls. I think I prefer Frutta Bowl... but I still love Playa Bowls for their Pitaya and Coconut Bases... I can't really recommend one over the other because they're both really good.
Bye!
