Foodie Tuesday: Dave’s Hot Chicken

Okay... so I saw the menu for Dave's Hot Chicken... and I kind of knew this was not the place for me and... I wasn't really sure if I should try it or not. But because one just opened up... I had to.

Sooo my boyfriend and I got the slider and tender combo with fries. We also got a side of Mac and cheese... we didn't get anything else. I got the lite mild and my boyfriend got the medium... neither one of them were spicy and the level wasn't all that different.

I'm going to say the food was good at this place- it's not bad... but for me- this is a one and done type of place. I don't think I'm going to go back just because the prices are a little bit strange and... it just isn't worth it for me personally. If you get one tender added to your meal here- it's $5... I would rather buy a $5 fill up from KFC or something at that price. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't life changing and I wouldn't go back there.

So that being said- the slider was good but again... the pricing doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me because this costs a lot more than a tender- but this is just a tender on a slider roll. It has sauce and it comes with pickles... but I don't think if you ask for it without those things it would be any cheaper. They ask up front if you want pickles and sauce on it I think.

The tender that was on the slider tasted a lot crispier to me than the regular tender. Not sure if that was supposed to be that way or if it's just one tender was a newer batch than the other... but it tasted a little different. My pickles just kind of fell right off the slider- so that didn't really help anything. I liked the tenders- but not more than other places.

The single Tender came with a slice of toast... so you could make your own slider if you want to. Toast isn't my favorite bread choice for this... but it was something I guess. I didn't really eat mine with it.

The fries weren't that great. It could be because I went home and ate it... but I'm a little picky on my fries... these weren't the best. There's a five guys right next to this place... I'd rather just go there if I was in the mood for fries. And I don't think you could substitute the fries for another side...

The Mac and cheese was pretty good... but you can also get good Mac and cheese from the grocery store... so overall I wasn't really impressed by anything. If you go there and you love it- that's fine but... that's just not me... I don't think I'd go back unless they change their menu or prices to make a little more sense... on its own- there are other places more worth getting chicken tenders from. The quality of the food was fine... I just don't see myself coming back.
