Fifth Grade Nightmares: Pen Pal Edition
So... in the very last month of school when I was in fifth grade- for some reason they decided THIS would be a good time for us to have pen pals. So everyone in the class had to pick a different state... I had a trick to get the state I wanted... well my second choice at least and that was Alaska. I'll probably share in tomorrows post the trick I used to get there...
Anyway- so I got the state I wanted and I found out that there is a town in Alaska called Unalaska and I of corse had to write to Unalaska, Alaska.
So when we were looking up schools- I knew what the abbreviation for Alaska was- it's AK, I just looked it up to check... but my teacher who was really really mean typed AL instead of AK and yelled at me because there was no Unalaska and the computer said that. Nope- there's an Unalaska I looked it up on the map. Something was wrong and... I don't remember if I said she got the abbreviation wrong or if she realized it on her own. I think she realized it on her own and she said "there is no Unalaska in Alabama." Totally straight faced... then realized she was wrong- didn't apologize for it... and still yelled at me for some reason. But whatever I got the state I wanted, I sent it to the only school that was there.
So... because they did this at the end of May or beginning of June or something ridiculous... I don't think anyone got a letter from the school back... we were also in 5th grade- which is the last grade my school went up to- so it's not like we could keep up with a pen pal or anything... it was a really silly assignment in retro spect... but it was fun aside from getting yelled at by my teacher... but sometimes as a kid you can't trust the adults with some things.
And yeah... that's it!
Bye!
