December Adventures: They Might Be Giants Concert at Union Transfer
Okay now onto one of the most exciting parts of my adventure this weekend: seeing They Might Be Giants in Philadelphia!
So this was our second time seeing They Might Be Giants and it was the same venue we saw them at the last time. The concert was similar to the last time that we saw them- but they were playing a different album and they have so many songs that people love that people love. A lot of the songs they played this time were the same as last time but they did it totally differently or at a different time in the concert… and it was really fun.
One thing that really amazes me about They Might Be Giants at their live concerts is how amazing both of the lead singers are at singing. Their voices go so well together and they can make their voices sound really different… and they did such a good job with it. They have a song called Spider that they sang and it was great, and they had a lot of songs that were like that with their voice being quiet and then louder… and their band was so good! They have an amazing drummer and they had a bunch of different people playing horns and they were all really good. I don’t know They Might Be Giants that much- I just kind of went because my boyfriend is such a fan… but they do such an amazing show.
One of the last songs they played this time was Istanbul (not Constantinople) which I think was a song they played earlier in their set last time… but this time they were so funny with it and they did a lot of different voices at the end… it’s sooo fun and everyone was so excited for the song. It was really great.
The crowd I have to say… kind of ruined the vibe of the show. A lot of them were just shouting “Do Particle Man” and it’s like no… they have a set they can’t just play whatever song you shout at them… like it’s just rude. They talked about a children’s album they did called Science is Real and someone yelled that the album sucked… it was just really rude. They played the song Science is Real after and they did great. The last time we saw They Might Be Giants it was in 2022 I think… I don’t think the crowd was as big because this was still around the time of Covid- we had to wear masks to the concert. And they were a lot more political in the first concert… this time they avoided talking politics and they didn’t banter as much in between… so that was a little upsetting. But the banter was still good, the songs were good and they were also kind of funny… and we had a great time seeing them. The last time we saw them they performed songs from their album Flood- and Book which is their newest album. This time they were performing Apollo 18, but they sang more songs from other album. They did still play songs from Book and Flood and there were a lot of others.
They also did a song backwards- which I think they just started doing the first time we saw them and they PERFECTED it this time. It was really funny to watch and it still sounded like a song.
Overall a great show- highly recommend seeing them live- even if you don’t really know them that well. They’re really fun and they’re so talented and great to watch! I would see them again and again.
Bye!
