Clown in A Cornfield: Book Review

I was highly recommended this book by my cousin who loves reading, horror movies, and clowns. Both of my cousins said it read just like a slasher movie... and I was pretty excited about it! I also found out Adam Cesare is a YouTuber who does horror review... so the guy clearly knows the genre and it clearly shows with this thrilling novel.

First off this is a YA novel- but that doesn't make it any less scary... in fact I would say it makes it even more unsettling. The back of the book- Which I didn't read until the end- sets up a sort of "Grown Ups vs. Teens" theme and... yeah that is unsettling and important for teens to realize in my opinion. A lot of times you can't trust someone just because they're an authority figure and... this book will leave you questioning just who you can trust.

This book also has a final girl who is not dumb or boring. I would compare her to Sydney Prescott because I think Sydney is really strong and she doesn't really fall for people's crap. Quinn is a lot like that- but she's also someone that instantly makes friends and tries to protect them... and she also instantly learns how to defend herself and save everyone. She is really, really badass and it's just very cool to read. Especially in the final chapters.

When I brought this book to work- a lot of people asked me if it was a Stephen King Rip off because Clowns- It- and Cornfield- Children of the Corn. It's not like either one of those... I haven't read those books- but I know enough to know this isn't really anything like those. It's way more of a slasher book... and a lot closer to something like Scream or Happy Death Day.

One book that I loved that this reminds me a lot of us the MindF*ck series. The theme of not trusting authority figures and questioning things that happen in a small town are very much present in both of these books. The Mindf*ck series also centers around a romance, it's a cat and mouse book, and it is very adult and very triggering... so if you like those themes but don't necessarily like a romance, you don't want to read any of the triggers in the mindf*ck series... this might be more of a book for you.

There's also a sequel and a third book coming out. I might try to read the sequel next month cause I like reading one thing a month... but overall I would recommend this!

Bye!
